New Orleans Pelicans' guard Jeremiah Fears sets a high target for himself as he prepares for his rookie NBA season.

Jeremiah Fears hasn’t stepped on an NBA court for his first regular-season game yet, but the New Orleans Pelicans rookie already knows exactly where he wants his career to go. The NBA Player Guessing Game allows you to guess the NBA player based on clues about their team, division, height, jersey number, points, and experience.

What Does Jeremiah Fears Believe His NBA Career Can Become?

Fears is currently with the Pelicans at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Going into the team’s second game against the Los Angeles Lakers, the highly rated guard was asked about his personal targets and how his ideal career path would pan out.

“I would definitely say top two point guard of all time,” said Fears. “Just bring a lot to the table and just continue to show everybody what I’m capable of every time I step on the floor.”

The confidence is real. Fears is setting the bar high as he approaches his rookie season. Self-belief is vital in the NBA, and the Pelicans guard has plenty of it.

That’s quite a statement when you consider the competition. Over the last few decades, there have been some truly gifted point guards who have taken the court. Magic Johnson, who won a championship in his rookie season with the Lakers, is considered by many to be one of the all-time greats. Four-time NBA champion Stephen Curry, currently with the Golden State Warriors, is the NBA’s all-time 3-point leader.

No player in the history of the NBA has more assists or steals than former Utah Jazz point guard John Stockton. Steve Nash was named the league’s MVP not once, but twice in his career. Isiah Thomas, Oscar Robertson, Chris Paul, Jason Kidd, and Gary Payton are some other names that come to mind.

At 6’3″ and 190 pounds, Fears fits the mold of a modern point guard. He is quick and agile, and his ability to penetrate, cut, and slash to the basket makes him a constant attacking threat. Like all great playmakers, the Illinois native is also capable of getting his teammates involved and opening up the game.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Fears going into this year’s draft. The young point guard is coming off a sensational year with the Oklahoma Sooners. He is capable of scoring and distributing the ball, and has a fiery and competitive nature that the Pelicans are missing. The expectations will be sky-high for the rising star, but Fears isn’t shying away from the pressure.

How Has Fears Performed in Summer League So Far?

Fears has featured in two Summer League games with the Pelicans. While he has shown some promising signs and produced some highlight-worthy moments, his efficiency will need to improve if he hopes to make an impact in the regular season.

In his first outing, Fears finished with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals over 27 minutes against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Against the Lakers on Saturday, Fears shot the ball poorly. He converted just five of his 21 attempts from the field and managed to hit just one of his seven 3-point attempts. Fears also had zero assists and steals over 29 minutes.

The raw talent is there for everyone to see, and it is important to note that Fears is still only 18 years old. There is plenty of room to grow and develop for the Pelicans’ newest member. New Orleans will hope that in the coming years, Fears can evolve into a regular starter for the organization.
