Paul Pierce is one of the NBA legends who made a name for himself in the 2000s era. Pierce played at a time when players like Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, and Allen Iverson were some of the faces of the league.
While there’s no denying that today’s stars are just as talented, if not better than the older generation, Pierce believes that his era of basketball was better.

Paul Pierce Believes the 2000s Era Is Better Than the NBA Today
Pierce, a Boston Celtics legend, recently made an appearance on the “No Fouls Given” podcast. One of the main talking points in the episode was about the comparison between today’s NBA and the 2000s era.
While Pierce acknowledged that the league is more competitive today, he believes that his era of basketball was more impactful in terms of influence. The Truth mentioned how NBA players in the 2000s were as big as celebrities at the time.
“I feel like players in the early 2000s were way more exciting to watch than now,” Pierce said. “The celebrity was bigger. We had more aura. We had way more aura, I’m telling you… It’s still the old heads, Steph and LeBron.”
“Wemby got some aura, but the average fan isn’t watching Wemby, Joker,” Pierce continued. “If Iverson was playing, we’re gonna see what Iverson is doing tonight. Let me see what McGrady might drop. Vince is on tonight! Kobe and Shaq! Let me see what KG is doing; he might dunk and spit on a motherf***er. It was more aura-like; we had to tune in. I’m playing dominoes, and Kobe has 60 at the end of the 3rd, like what?!”
Paul Pierce and Danny Green says the NBA players in early 2000s were way more exciting to watch and had more AURA than today’s NBA 👀

While there may be some truth to Pierce’s sentiments, there’s no denying how far the NBA has evolved. We now live in an era where taking shots from half-court is a regular occurrence. Back then, only guards took shots from the outside. These days, even big men have 3-point shots in their bags.
While the swag and style points on the court could be awarded to the players of the 2000s, it’s arguable that the skill and finesse on the hardwood is more elite in today’s NBA.
