Paul George’s continued absence from the Philadelphia 76ers’ roster is a cause for concern and a source of frustration for the team’s fan base. After trading away James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers in return for George, the 76ers were expected to remain in contention for a title by pairing up George with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
Unfortunately, injuries prevented the three stars from spending much time on the court together last season, and the 76ers finished with a subpar record of 24 wins and 58 losses. While many may have hoped for things to go differently this season, George’s health and injury status have prevented the same so far.
Paul George Has Yet To Make His Debut for the 76ers This Season
While the majority of attention has been given to LeBron James, who has yet to play a single game for the Los Angeles Lakers, George is in a similar position with the 76ers. Unlike James’ sciatic back injury, George underwent knee surgery this offseason and is currently undergoing the required rehabilitation and conditioning process.
It was already reported that George was intensifying his workouts and drills after participating in his first five-on-five workout on October 16. However, the 76ers have no plans to rush him back, and George remains sidelined from action.
According to recent reports, George will miss “at least” two more games as he consults with doctors and assesses his recovery situation. This report may disappoint the 76ers fan base, as it offers no reassurance regarding an established return timetable for George.
George’s injuries prevented him from staying on the court consistently for the 76ers last season as well. He played in just 41 games, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.8 steals.
Although George’s numbers last season are well below his career average, the 76ers need him to get back to complete form to keep their postseason aspirations alive. As things stand, an argument could be made that Maxey has been the only consistent star among the three.
Maxey, as well as Embiid and the other 76ers stars, are currently doing their best to ensure that the 76ers remain afloat, as the team currently holds a record of five wins and three losses. Given that they are on a two-game losing streak, coming at the hands of the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers, George’s return to the team is of importance.
While the injury report does not guarantee that George will return after two games, fans believe that he will try his best to suit up for the NBA Cup group stage matchup against the Detroit Pistons. Hopefully, George suffers no setback and can remain healthy this season.
