LeBron James defied the odds once again on Tuesday, leading the shorthanded Los Angeles Lakers to a 101-94 Game 2 home victory over the Houston Rockets behind a historic performance.
After LA improbably seized a 2-0 lead in the first-round Western Conference playoff series without two members of its Big 3, the NBA world marveled at James’ longevity.

LeBron James Delivers Historic Masterclass in Lakers’ Game 2 Triumph
The fourth-seeded Lakers entered Round 1 with the daunting task of generating enough offense without star guards Luka Dončić (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (oblique) to live up to their strong regular-season record (53-29).
While James and Co. caught a break in Saturday’s 107-98 Game 1 home win, with Rockets star forward Kevin Durant (knee) unexpectedly getting ruled out, the two-time NBA champion was back in action on Tuesday.
Still, James remained the most impactful player on the court, recording a game-high 28 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal, and 2 3-pointers. In doing so, the 22-time All-Star surpassed Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most points in a playoff game by a player 41 years or older.
James showcased his timeless athleticism, throwing down multiple dunks, including an emphatic reverse jam on a straight-line drive to the basket after blowing by Durant early in the third quarter.
The four-time MVP continued getting to the rim at will in the final frame, converting multiple contested finishes inside. With LA in front 97-92, James put an exclamation point on his big night by cutting for a ferocious two-handed dunk to extend his team’s lead to 7 points with 55.3 seconds remaining.

James won the head-to-head scoring battle against Durant (23 points), who was held to just 3 second-half points on 1-for-5 shooting (20%) and finished with 9 turnovers. Meanwhile, he facilitated for his teammates throughout the night, with Lakers veteran guards Marcus Smart and Luke Kennard combining for 48 points to supplement his well-rounded effort.
James’ latest postseason masterclass left X buzzing, with many underscoring the unlikelihood of him still dominating the playoffs in Year 23.
“Outscored EVERYONE at 41 years old… 🤯🤯,” Legion Hoops reacted.

“LeBron really playing like he’s got something to prove, which is remarkable because there’s literally nothing left to chase,” NBA writer Josh Eberley observed.

“This game ended in the first 6 minutes of the 2nd half when LeBron tortured [Alperen] Şengün in the pick-and-roll repeatedly and played him off the court. 28-8-7 for the oldest guy in the league to go up 2-0 in a series the other team opened as a -800 favorite. Impossible,” FS1’s Nick Wright wrote.

Meanwhile, Smart simply dubbed James’ performance “greatness” before lauding the 23-year veteran’s “IQ” and “poise.”

After successfully defending their home court, the undermanned Lakers will look to do the unthinkable and take an imposing 3-0 series lead during Friday’s road clash in Houston.
