NBA World Blasts Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for ‘Dirty’ Flagrant Foul on Austin Reaves

Officiating and flopping complaints took center stage Thursday, with many fans and pundits pointing to numerous questionable calls that went in OKC’s favor.

Frustration reached a boiling point early in the third quarter when Gilgeous-Alexander attempted to draw a foul on Reaves while battling for positioning at the top of the key. The reigning MVP clamped Reaves’ elbow and twisted, leaving the Lakers star in considerable pain as he tumbled to the ground.

Gilgeous-Alexander was whistled for his fourth foul, with the Thunder opting to challenge the call despite the replay clearly displaying the four-time All-Star’s follow-through.

After the foul was upgraded to a flagrant 1, the NBA world promptly piled on Gilgeous-Alexander, labeling the move “dirty,” with some noting its wrestling-like nature.

“SGA clamped Austin Reaves’ arm trying to foul-bait, and almost dislocated his elbow. Just unnecessary and dangerous,” Hater Report asserted.

“SGA such a dirty mf’er. No way bro can be face of the league,” Lakers Daily contended.

“SGA almost RIPPED Reaves’ arm off. This is NOT basketball anymore,” LA fan account PurpGold fumed.

“This is an arm bar. This is a wrestling move where Shai is trying to injure Austin Reaves. This is dirty and dangerous. It’s no wonder NBA players don’t respect this team,” New York Times bestselling author Mikel Jollett weighed in.

“Austin Reaves somehow comes up injury-free after this. SGA was called for a flagrant 1. DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY,” First Down Media slammed Gilgeous-Alexander.

Fortunately for LA, Reaves was able to stay in the contest, finishing with a game-high 31 points and 6 assists on efficient 10-for-16 shooting (62.5%).

Still, it wasn’t enough, as after taking a 1-point halftime lead (58-57), the Lakers once again proved to be outmatched in the second half, getting outscored 68-49 en route to a demoralizing 125-107 road defeat.

The defending champions received a well-balanced team effort after the break, with four players scoring in double figures, led by star big man Chet Holmgren’s 16-point second half.

After falling into a daunting 2-0 hole in the Western Conference semifinal series, Reaves and Co. seized an opportunity to voice their gripes to the officials.

Games 3 and 4 are scheduled for Saturday and Monday in LA, with the Lakers needing at least one victory on their home floor to return to Oklahoma City.
