Nico Harrison Changes Instagram Bio Hours After Being Fired by Mavericks

Nico Harrison was fired by the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday after a poor start to their season. That was followed by an intriguing move by Harrison.

Last season, Nico Harrison shocked the world when he and Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka agreed to trade their star players, Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis, for each one. Nine months later, Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont announced the move that the fanbase had been asking for ever since the trade happened: “Fire Nico”.

The NBA world has yet to hear Harrison speaking publicly, but an intriguing action by the now-former GM quickly caught attention.

Nico Harrison Subtly Announces Unemployment on Social Media

With still 71 regular-season games remaining in their schedule, the Dallas Mavericks parted ways with their general manager, Harrison. This was mainly due to the team’s poor start this season. It all started when Harrison made an impulsive decision to trade Dončić for Davis last year.

While Davis may be a star in his own right, Dončić’s basketball prowess is unmatched, especially with the type of numbers he’s putting up with the Lakers this year. Considering the Lakers’ recent success, this might have also influenced Dumont’s decision to fire Harrison.

Not long after his firing, Harrison updated his Instagram bio. Initially, his bio read, “GM of the Dallas Mavericks”.

After his release, Harrison changed his Instagram bio to “Girl Dad and Unemployed”. Immediately following the firing of Harrison, Mavericks owner Dumont released a statement regarding why he decided to let the former general manager go.

“No one associated with the Mavericks organization is happy with the start of what we all believed would be a promising season. You have high expectations for the Mavericks, and I share them with you. When the results don’t meet expectations, it’s my responsibility to act,” Dumont wrote.

“Though the majority of the 2025-26 season remains to be played, and I know our players are deeply committed to a winning culture, this decision was critical to moving our franchise forward in a positive direction,” Dumont continued. “I understand the profound impact these last several difficult months have had. Please know that I’m fully committed to the success of the Mavericks.”

In all fairness to Harrison, his sudden decision to trade Dončić looked beneficial to Dallas. He was able to form a star trio featuring Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson. To add the cherry on top, the Mavericks secured the first pick of the 2025 NBA Draft, bringing in Cooper Flagg to their roster.

Unfortunately for him, the players he thought would lead the franchise to success, Davis and Irving, are both injured, which heavily factors into his firing on Tuesday.
