Former NBA Champion Nick Young Gets Brutally Trolled by Fans After Controversial Take on Tim Duncan, Spurs

Nick Young gets roasted on social media following outlandish take about Tim Ducan's Spurs and their status as a dynasty.

Former NBA champion Nick Young recently caused controversy on social media with a hot take about Tim Duncan’s San Antonio Spurs championship teams.

Young was a solid journeyman during his career, spending 12 years in the NBA and averaging just over 11 points per game. He was well-known for his streaky shooting and often found himself at the center of attention on social media. His longest stints were with the Los Angeles Lakers for four seasons and the Washington Wizards for five. He also won a championship with the Golden State Warriors in 2018.

Young’s take went down poorly with NBA fans, who voiced their displeasure on X after his controversial comment.

Nick Young Gets Roasted on Social Media With Hot Take About Tim Duncan’s Spurs

Young, nicknamed “Swaggy P” during his playing days, took to X and gave an unprompted take on the Spurs’ championship teams. He surprisingly claimed they shouldn’t be considered a dynasty.

He posted, “Tim Duncan Spurs was not a dynasty team.”

It’s unclear what his motivation was for posting this. Maybe he was just trying to stir up a reaction. If that was the goal, it worked. Plenty of fans had strong responses to the take, since it’s hard to argue against the Spurs’ consistent success for nearly 20 years, not to mention the five titles.

One user wrote, “Log off my boy,” which was actually one of the nicer replies.

Another user also felt Young was way off, writing, “You really get a kick out of being objectively wrong.”

One fan simply wrote, “clown post.” Another defended the Spurs, responding, “5 rings in 20 seasons and consistent deep playoff runs with 50-win seasons the entire time? But not a dynasty, nah.”

Another fan voiced their frustrations that the take came from a former player: “How TF do NBA players have such bad takes,” while another backed Duncan with, “Cmon now, Timmy is basketball royalty.”

Fans were not happy, and it’s easy to understand why. The Spurs won five championships between 1999 and 2014, including a title every other year between 2003 and 2007.

Legendary head coach Gregg Popovich and Hall of Famer Tim Duncan were one of the best coach-player duos in NBA history during that run. Duncan won three Finals MVPs and is considered one of the greatest big men ever.

The Spurs also had an unprecedented 18 straight 50-win seasons from 1999 to 2017. That kind of winning over two decades, with Popovich at the helm, deserves major respect.

Young might want to clarify what he thinks a dynasty actually is. Because when you look at those numbers, the Spurs belong in the same conversation as the Lakers, Celtics, and Warriors dynasties.
