‘What Do You Know?’ — NBA World Reacts As ESPN’s LeBron James Tribute Ignites Retirement Rumors

Some NBA fans are worried that LeBron James could retire soon amid a tribute piece from ESPN on his 23 years in the NBA.

Few players have shaped an era of basketball like LeBron James has over his 23 years in the NBA. A four-time NBA champion, the Ohio native continues to dominate the sport at 41.

While LeBron has not announced his plans for next season, speculation continues about whether he could retire at the end of the Los Angeles Lakers’ current campaign.

NBA World Speculates LeBron James Could Retire After ESPN Tribute

ESPN did a special feature to pay tribute to LeBron’s 23 years in the NBA, counting down his 23 best moments in the league. This led some fans to wonder whether King James could call time on his glittering playing career at the end of the current season.

Media personality Robert Littal BSO wondered whether articles like ESPN’s could mean LeBron may retire at the end of the season rather than do a retirement tour next year.

“I always thought LeBron would go on the retirement tour but some of these articles that are coming out,” he wrote on X.

Another worried fan wrote that LeBron could retire after the season.

“I think LeBron might be walking away after this season,” they wrote.

A worried fan wondered whether the article was ESPN’s way of hinting that LeBron could retire soon.

“All these pieces make me feel like you know something we don’t, Dave,” they wrote with the crying emoji.

A basketball fan predicted that LeBron’s retirement could come at the end of the season.

“This might be it for him,” they wrote.

Another fan asked whether these tribute pieces are a hint about LeBron’s impending retirement.

“Why you keep posting these like @KingJames is retiring soon?!?,” they wrote.

Colin, another basketball analyst, also questioned what the ESPN insiders knew about James’ retirement news. He wrote, “Man, you’re drip feeding ts to us, what do you know?????”

LeBron has been with the Lakers since 2018 and won his last NBA Championship in 2020. He has accomplished another long-term goal over the last two seasons: playing with his son, Bronny.

It is worth noting that LeBron has said nothing about his plans for next season yet. He has been leading from the front for the Lakers this postseason, averaging 23.6 points, 7.8 assists, and 6.1 rebounds.

The Lakers are currently facing the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals. They dropped the first two games on the road but hope to get back to even as the series moves to the Crypto.com Arena. Game 3 will take place tonight (tip-off at 8:30 p.m. ET).
