Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs missed out on the opportunity to level the NBA Finals as the 22-year-old committed a costly turnover in the final seconds of Game 2.
After the New York Knicks claimed another vital win on the road, the NBA world criticized Wembanyama for his controversial attempt to draw a foul in the final seconds.

NBA World Criticizes Victor Wembanyama for Flopping on Final Play of Game 2 Loss
Wembanyama had the chance to give the Spurs the lead with the final possession of the game, but his contested 20-footer hit the back of the rim. Knicks fan and actor Ben Stiller, who was sitting courtside, shared a video that he took of the final possession and the ensuing celebrations.
Fans reacted to the video, highlighting Wembanyama’s effort to draw a foul from Mitchell Robinson despite an apparent lack of contact.
Basketball analyst Kevin O’Connor claimed that had Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made a similar attempt to draw a foul, he would have been the subject of much criticism in the aftermath of the game.
“Wemby wasn’t even touched on that last shot and still flopped to the floor. If that were SGA it’d dominate the conversation today,” he wrote on X.

Sports presenter Jon Alba also called out Wembanyama for falling without contact and then appearing to be upset after not getting the call.
“Make no mistake about this. Not only does Wemby totally flop here, but he then gets up, looks around, and shrugs complaining about no call. Soft stuff. He’s better than that,” he wrote.

A Toronto Raptors fan also drew the Gilgeous-Alexander comparison and wondered how fans on social media would have reacted if the two-time NBA MVP had attempted to win a foul like that.
“If SGA flopped like this at the end there’d be a 72 hour discourse on this app,” they wrote.
