Brunson had come into the day with averages of 29.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists per contest while shooting 48.2% from the field and 37.4% from three-point range.
He is coming off a season where he led the Knicks to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in 25 years.

With their victory, the Knicks are now 21-9 in 30 games, which has them as the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
They are an outstanding 15-2 in the 17 games they have played at Madison Square Garden.
Following the Cavs, the Knicks will play their next game on Saturday when they visit Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks.

As for the Cavs, they dropped to 17-15 in 32 games, which has them as the seventh seed.
