‘It’s Wemby’s League,’ ‘AREA 51 HAS ARRIVED’ — NBA World Reacts to Victor Wembanyama Dominating Cooper Flagg

San Antonio Spurs' Victor Wembanyama was a human highlight reel against the Dallas Mavericks, overshadowing top pick Cooper Flagg's NBA debut.

San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama has been putting on a highlight reel show in the first half against the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center in Dallas, totally overshadowing the NBA regular season debut of Mavericks No. 1 draft pick Cooper Flagg.

In the first half, Wembanyama scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. But that’s just half the story, as the Spurs held a 60-51 halftime lead. NBA fans, especially Spurs fans, were going wild over watching the big third-year player make incredible moves on the court.

What Were Fans Saying About Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama?

One fan could not believe the dexterity Wembanyama showed when taking a lob pass from a Spurs teammate and slamming a hit home on a reverse jam. The fan went out on X and posted, “AREA 51 HAS ARRIVED.”

As for this fan, the person already appears ready to say that the entire NBA might be almost in Wembanyama’s hip pocket. The fan wrote, “This may be the first season of many where it’s just Wemby’s league”.

One person is already telling other NBA teams that Wembanyama will be a lot to handle when they face him and the Spurs. That person is none other than NBA analyst and reporter Marc Stein, who knows a thing or two about the league.

What can’t Wembanyama do? In this post from X, he takes off from near the free-throw line, gets a Mavericks defender in the air, and drives to the bucket. He closes out with a one-handed jam that had Mavericks players ducking for cover. The person wrote, “VICTOR WEMBANYAMA ARE YOU SERIOUS??”

Apparently, the answer is yes. Wembanyama is very, very serious. This fan cannot believe what he’s seeing on the court on Wednesday night. He’s probably reacting like all those people tuning into the game, which was the second of Wednesday night’s NBA doubleheader on ESPN.

Everyone is talking about Wemby, even the “Inside the NBA” crew of Ernie Johnson Jr., Kenny Smith, Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal on ESPN at halftime.

What about Flagg, though? It was a tough first half for him as he finished the half with zero points and six defensive rebounds. The Duke alum finished with a minus-17, too. But he will be picking up the pace in the second half for Dallas. Flagg hit his first shot in the second half, but got his second one blocked by Wembanyama.

But that’s not what NBA fans are talking about. It’s Wembanyama’s world, and all NBA and Spurs fans are just going to sit back and enjoy it all.
