The Houston Rockets entered last season believing Kevin Durant was the missing piece to a team ready to contend. Less than a year later, the franchise appears willing to keep its options open.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Kelly Iko, the Rockets are willing to listen to trade offers for almost every player, including Kevin Durant and Alperen Şengün. Only Amen Thompson is viewed as nearly untouchable.

Fans Immediately Begin Speculating About Durant’s Future
Despite winning 52 games, Houston believes it is still a step behind the NBA’s top contenders after injuries exposed major roster weaknesses. After evaluating the Western Conference Finals and NBA Finals, the Rockets reportedly believe they are still not on the same level as the league’s top championship contenders.
The report is now getting reactions from everywhere, with many fans already imagining Durant’s next destination.
“Kevin Durant it’s time to fulfill the prophecy,” one fan wrote.

Several fans immediately connected Durant to the San Antonio Spurs and rising superstar Victor Wembanyama.
“Lmao front office is hilarious genuinely but if y’all do trade KD send him to San Antonio immediately. KD and Wemby would break the league,” one fan said.
Others supported the idea, posting, “KD to San Antonio???”

While another fan suggested, “Durant | Morant 2026 – this is the way.”
Not every reaction treated the report as a sudden surprise.
“This part of the aggregation is WHOOPING tail right now. Not breaking news and is how the org should operate,” one fan wrote.
“Houston isn’t actively shopping its All-Stars or other key members, sources said, but are merely expressing more of a willingness to listen than at previous junctures.”

What Houston’s New Approach Means Moving Forward
Although the Rockets are not actively trying to trade Durant, Sengun, or other key players. However, they are still willing to listen to offers if a deal can improve their chances of winning.
Houston plans to keep building around Thompson and is expected to continue contract talks with him after the draft. The team also wants to keep Tari Eason despite interest from other clubs. Fred VanVleet is expected to remain with the Rockets, either by picking up his player option or signing a new contract.

The Rockets could consider trading Dorian Finney-Smith to improve their bench and create more salary cap space for free agency.
For now, the biggest takeaway is that Houston is no longer operating with a “run it back” mindset. Whether that leads to a blockbuster Durant trade or another surprising roster shakeup remains to be seen, but the Rockets are clearly willing to consider every path for becoming a true contender.
