NBA Fans React to the Los Angeles Lakers Announcing Multiple Layoffs

ESPN reported that the Lakers’ sweeping layoffs affected several different departments, including marketing, team content, communications, and corporate partnerships. This comes as the latest step in an ongoing overhaul process on the business side of things at the franchise, lasting several months.

NBA fans shared their thoughts on the news of all the layoffs at Crypto.com Arena. Some were saddened by the news, while others commented that it shows Walter is putting his stamp of authority on the Lakers.

“Ppl still thinking the old regime has real say in operations still when they old employees getting laid off is crazy btw. Mark [is] not putting billions into an org to let somebody else keep things status quo and call the shots,” one Lakers fan wrote on X.

Analyst/insider Anthony F. Irwin also weighed in on the news of the layoffs.

“This was what I mentioned toward the end of the show today. Still working out who was affected and trying to respect those who lost their jobs,” he wrote.

Another Lakers fan felt that an upheaval was long overdue in Los Angeles.

“Never rooting for people losing jobs but yea man… Long overdue,” they wrote.

A third Lakers fan thanked the Lakers’ new majority owner after the news broke.

“Thank you Mark Walter,” they wrote.

Another fan claimed that the revamp showed that the Lakers were looking to make serious organizational changes to the team in the offseason.

“Never happy about people losing their jobs but Lakers are very serious about the organizational revamp can’t argue that,” they claimed.
