Should the Los Angeles Lakers make another move to upgrade their roster? As things stand, the Lakers look to be one of the most imposing forces in the Western Conference. Led by Luka Dončić and a finally recovered LeBron James, the Lakers are 11-4, making them one of the best teams in the West.
Although the team is filled with talent, prominent members of the basketball community believe the Lakers would benefit from adding another player to their lineup. This addition could help guarantee the team’s title aspirations this season.
Los Angeles Lakers Reportedly Interested in Former Champion
Andrew Wiggins is a star currently playing for the Miami Heat. Fans will also recall that Wiggins played a pivotal role in helping the Golden State Warriors win the 2022 NBA championship.
Wiggins joined the Heat in the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Warriors and has done his best to prove himself a valuable asset. In 15 games with the Heat this season, Wiggins is averaging 16.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.
His recent success may have placed Wiggins on the Lakers’ radar. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Wiggins is a player the Lakers are monitoring for a potential acquisition.

Wiggins is on a four-year contract worth $109,000,002 that he signed during his time with the Warriors. He will become an unrestricted free agent heading into the 2027-28 season. As a result, the Heat are unlikely to trade him to the Lakers unless they receive a high-value return.
While the Lakers may consider parting with Austin Reaves, the only other player on the team with significant value and impact, it is unclear whether they should risk disrupting their current momentum for Wiggins, especially considering that integrating James into the lineup is a top priority.
With Andrew Wiggins earning $28.2 million this season, the Lakers would need to match his salary. One option would be to send Rui Hachimura and Jarred Vanderbilt in a potential deal.
Since Wiggins and James play similar positions, the Lakers may be monitoring the Heat star’s situation with an eye toward the future. After all, it is not certain that James will still be in the NBA when Wiggins’ current contract expires.
The Lakers will also have financial flexibility once James retires. They will need to make the best use of their resources, and acquiring Wiggins could be a strategic move in that direction.
