After 24 games throughout their season so far, it appears that the Sacramento Kings might miss out on the postseason once again. The Kings are currently in 13th place in the Western Conference with a 6-18 record.
While the team is stacked with players like DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, Russell Westbrook, and Domantas Sabonis on paper, it seems that the formula isn’t working.
Having said that, it seems that the Kings are targeting a former NBA champion to trade for this season.
Kings Reportedly Set To Offer a Trade for a Warriors Star
According to several reports, the Kings have expressed interest in the Golden State Warriors’ Jonathan Kuminga. The Warriors forward is currently signed to a two-year contract worth $46,800,000.
Given the amount they have to pay in his contract, the Kings don’t have to worry much about trading a lot in return. NBA insider Marc J. Spears reported that Sacramento intends to offer Malik Monk in exchange for Kuminga.
“The Sacramento Kings continue to have interest in acquiring Jonathan Kuminga, but while Malik Monk might still be available in a package, the previously included first-round pick is no longer expected to be part of Sacramento’s offer,” as per Spears.

Looking at what the Kings are expecting if they end up with Kuminga on their team, they’re getting a player who hustles for the ball. If they end up trading Monk, Sacramento will have a player who will undoubtedly reinforce the paint.
Kuminga is currently averaging 12.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists. His production on offense is similar to Monk’s, which shouldn’t be a problem. The bonus that the Kings are getting is Kuminga’s ability to rebound and put the ball back.
Kuminga’s style of play will be a better fit with teammates like DeRozan, LaVine, and Westbrook. The Warriors focus more on small-ball rotations and outside shooting plays. Meanwhile, the Kings have more versatility and have an all-around style.
However, one major aspect Sacramento should watch out for is Kuminga’s injury tendencies. The last time the Warriors forward played over 50 games was back in the 2023-24 season, when he played 74 games.
Last season, he only played 47 games. This season, so far, he’s played in 17 out of 25 games. Now dealing with a knee injury, he’s yet to find his rhythm on offense, which is hurting the Warriors’ climb in the Western Conference.
Having all that said, there’s a chance that the trade could backfire if Sacramento ends up pulling the trigger on the Monk-Kuminga trade.
