Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James spoke about the trade that sent Schröder to the Cavs (via Mind the Game).

James: “Those pickups that they got from SAC as well. Schröder a former teammate of mine. You know that’s gonna compete every single night… Keon Ellis, guy that’s gonna compete and make shots. Those guys are gonna be I think really, really good for that team… You gotta have some dogs in there, so I think they added a lot.”

Schröder was the 17th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.

He has also spent time playing for the Atlanta Hawks, OKC Thunder, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors.

His career averages are 13.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.9 assists per contest while shooting 43.0% from the field and 34.1% from three-point range in 886 games.

Via ESPN’s Shams Charania (on January 30): “BREAKING: The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading De’Andre Hunter to the Sacramento Kings for Dennis Schroder and Keon Ellis, sources tell ESPN. The three-team deal includes the Chicago Bulls acquiring Kings forward Dario Saric and two future second-round picks.”

The Cavs are coming off a season where they were the first seed in the Eastern Conference.

However, they lost to the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the 2025 NBA playoffs.

Right now, the Cavs are the fourth seed with a 34-21 record in 55 games.

They are in the middle of a five-game winning streak (and have won nine out of their last ten).

Following the All-Star break, the Cavs will resume action on Thursday when they host the Brooklyn Nets in Ohio (they are 18-11 at home).

As for James, he had two stints with the Cavs, leading them to the title in 2016 over the Golden State Warriors.

He is currently in the middle of his eighth season playing for the Lakers.
