NBA Announces Monumental Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Scoring Milestone, Highlighting Thunder Superstar’s Historic Consistency

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander further cemented his status as one of the most consistent scorers in NBA history during Tuesday’s 126-107 road win over the shorthanded Los Angeles Clippers.

Meanwhile, OKC made franchise history as it continued its early-season dominance in the absence of star forward Jalen Williams (wrist).

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Surpasses NBA Legend Oscar Robertson’s 61-Year-Old Scoring Streak

Gilgeous-Alexander tallied a game-high 30 points, four rebounds, 12 assists, three blocks, and four 3-pointers, shooting an efficient 9-for-14 (64.3%) as the Thunder overcame a slow start to cruise to their eighth straight victory. They turned an early 13-point deficit into a 25-point advantage, pulling away behind a 17-0 run across the third and fourth quarters, which expanded their lead from 88-86 to 105-86.

With his team firmly in control, Gilgeous-Alexander sat out the entire final frame for the third straight game and the fourth time in eight outings. Still, that didn’t stop the reigning MVP from climbing the NBA record books. He reached at least 20 points for the 80th consecutive contest, surpassing Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson (79 games) for the third-longest 20-point streak in league history.

Gilgeous-Alexander now trails only NBA icon Wilt Chamberlain, arguably the most dominant interior scorer ever, who recorded two separate 20-point streaks of 92 and 126 contests. Both Robertson and Chamberlain achieved their streaks in the early 1960s, adding to the significance of Gilgeous-Alexander’s achievement, considering the league’s overall rise in talent in recent decades.

However, the three-time All-Star isn’t letting the pressure to come through for his squad on a nightly basis get to him.

“I just focus on what I can control,” Gilgeous-Alexander said postgame. “That’s giving this game, giving my teammates, giving this organization, and giving the fans my all. And wherever that takes me and us, it takes us. So far, it’s going well.”

In overcoming the Kawhi Leonard-less Clippers, OKC achieved its best start in franchise history (8-0), exceeding its 7-0 mark from last season to remain the lone undefeated team. It has held down the fort and then some as Williams’ season debut continues to be pushed back after undergoing a follow-up procedure on his right wrist.

Between their star power, depth, internal development, and reinforcements being on the way soon, the Thunder appear poised to challenge last season’s franchise-best 68-14 record. Meanwhile, “SGA” remains firmly in the mix for his second straight scoring title, ranking second in the league in points per game (33.1), and showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
