NBA Insider Details Stephen Curry’s Stance on Warriors’ Roster Amid LeBron James Rumors

Marc Spears has revealed how Stephen Curry really feels about the Warriors' current roster ahead of the summer.

Stephen Curry has been sidelined with a right knee injury, but his focus on the Warriors’ future has not slowed down at all.

With Golden State sitting at 32-30 on the season and currently holding the eighth seed in the Western Conference, the big picture surrounding Stephen Curry and the Warriors’ franchise trajectory is becoming impossible to ignore.

Stephen Curry Expects Another Superstar to Join the Warriors

According to Marc Spears, Curry has shared his honest outlook on where this team is headed, pointing squarely toward a major acquisition this coming summer.

Spears relayed that Curry is focused on the present, wanting to play out the remainder of this season and get into the postseason. Championship expectations, however, appear to be tempered for now. Curry reportedly acknowledged that Jimmy Butler, who tore his ACL earlier this season and has been ruled out for the year, will not be available.

“He mentioned to me that Jimmy Butler is not going to be there, but he obviously must like Podziemski, Gui, some of the other young guys on the team, Moody,” Spears said.

“If it’s important for him to get them playoff time because I think he knows whether it’s a Giannis, whether it’s a LeBron James, there’s going to be somebody next summer that’s going to join him, join Jimmy, join Draymond, assuming he’s still there.”

The backdrop to all of this, of course, is the very real possibility that Golden State could land a transformative star this offseason. Curry and LeBron James have been publicly linked for some time now.

The two won Olympic gold together in Paris in 2024, and James, who becomes an unrestricted free agent in June, has been heavily linked with a move to Golden State. Giannis Antetokounmpo has also surfaced as a target, with the Bucks’ situation around the two-time MVP remaining fluid heading into the offseason.

Spears framed it simply and practically: “Remember, this is the Warriors, they got a brand, they can quick-fix and add some talent. But on the cheaper side, is the younger guys and if you get them that good experience like they’re getting now, then it’s going to help the franchise in the long run and save them some money for somebody bigger in the process.”

Curry, who is averaging 27.2 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game this season before his knee injury, remains one of the best players in the league at 37 years old. His contract, which runs through the 2026-27 season at $62.6 million, ensures Golden State has its centerpiece locked in.

James’ future remains one of the biggest storylines in the NBA, and with his Lakers tenure seemingly winding down, a move to Golden State in free agency could be closer to reality than many expect.
