Trading away a generational talent like Luka Dončić for Anthony Davis was supposed to be the final move of a chaotic rebuild for the Dallas Mavericks. Instead, it was just the beginning. After landing the No. 1 pick in Cooper Flagg, the organization plunged into further uncertainty with a 3-8 start and the shocking dismissal of general manager Nico Harrison.
Now, with the front office in flux and the team struggling, the biggest question in Dallas is whether the star they just acquired is already on his way out.

What Is Anthony Davis’s Trade Market Looking Like?
On a recent episode of “The Zach Lowe Show,” the NBA insider explained that Davis’s trade market is already heating up. Apparently, teams have begun discussions around the veteran star, which could eventually lead to a trade.
“I can tell you teams are already having internal conversations like ‘What would the price point be? What do we think their price point is going to be?'” Lowe explained. “Obviously, this is a shell-shock time for the Mavericks’ new front office. I don’t think anything is really going on. It’s before December 15th when free agents signed over the summer become eligible to be traded. Really, it’s almost impossible to make anything happen before then.”

“There’s going to be Anthony Davis trade talks of some seriousness. Whether they result in a deal or not is impossible to say. I would bet on yes.”

However, Lowe clarified that there is no “hard intel” available yet, even if Davis is expected to be the focus of multiple trade talks. One major hurdle in any potential deal, however, is Davis’s contract. He is due for an extension after the 2025-26 campaign, and his future could depend on which teams are willing to commit to a long-term deal.
According to Lowe, not every team may be willing to offer him a four-year, $240 million extension. Adding to the complexity are Davis’s well-documented injury concerns. Currently dealing with a left calf strain, his recurring injuries and missed time might dent his overall trade value.
Despite those issues, his championship pedigree and playoff experience remain invaluable assets. Any contender could instantly benefit from his high-level scoring and defensive abilities.

The Mavericks made headlines again, this time for firing Harrison. Despite the fan excitement surrounding Flagg and Kyrie Irving’s impending return, the move could have a direct impact on Davis’s future with the franchise.
According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, has formed a strong relationship with Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, which paved the way for a favorable outcome since the February trade.
Davis, who is averaging 20.8 points this season, is listed as questionable for the team’s upcoming clash against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, November 12.
