NBA Insider Shams Charania talked about a potential trade that the Boston Celtics might consider this offseason. Despite winning the NBA championship in the 2023-24 season, the Celtics lost to the New York Knicks in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
Winning or not, the Celtics were expected to make moves to cut down their expensive, overpaid roster.
While it is impossible to know for certain which players the Celtics will trade, Charania has an idea or two.

The Celtics Are Unwilling To Trade Away NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown
As things stand, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are the two franchise cornerstones for the Celtics. Brown signed a five-year contract worth $285,393,640 and is under contract through the 2029-2030 season.
Brown, 28, is one of the top players in the NBA. Therefore, the Celtics would be hesitant to trade him away as opposed to trading players like Kristaps Porziņģis or Jrue Holiday. During a recent episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Charania spoke on the “demand” for Brown.
“I’m sure teams are throwing crazy offers for guys like Jaylen Brown and Derrick White,” Charania told McAfee. “But it will take a pretty insurmountable package to get those guys out of Boston.”

While Derrick White’s contract might not be as expensive as Brown’s, Charania revealed that trading him or Brown away was something the Celtics would not accept without a sky-high asking price in return.
Even if Boston was OK with getting younger, inexperienced players in order to create salary-cap space, the Celtics might want a bevy of draft picks to trade away the 2024 NBA Finals MVP.
Since Tatum sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon and is expected to miss almost a full year, trading him away when his value is at an all-time low is not happening.
Therefore, the Celtics are likely to trade away other members of their supporting cast, such as Holiday and Porziņģis, as opposed to Brown, White, or even Tatum. Fans are left pondering over which Celtics players will be traded before next season.
