NBA Insider Reveals ‘Likely Endgame’ With the Quentin Grimes Situation

In his latest on “The Stein Line,” league insider Jake Fischer divulged details of what the 76ers had to offer Grimes. “After Grimes’ gaudy production in March, Bauman has pursued a salary approaching $25 million in average annual value. The Sixers’ offer, when it finally came, landed shy of $40 million over four seasons,” the report read.

It also added that sources with knowledge of the discussions said the conversations between the two parties during the Summer League were on multiple frameworks of what the contract would be.

“Those talks never generated a substantive offer from Philadelphia until this week because the Sixers realized how substantial the gulf between the sides really was.”

Fischer further added, “Philadelphia’s first official offer to Grimes on Wednesday was indeed a four-year $39 million pitch. Such a chasm seems to have steered the parties to a point that a one-year pact richer than the Grimes’ one-year, $8 million qualifier is the likely endgame here.”

The latest comes after ESPN and NBA insider Shams Charania stated that both sides had yet to agree on a deal. This was followed by reports that said a one-year deal was the likely outcome. The Nets were briefly considered one of the teams with the cap space to make an offer, but there have been no concrete developments on it since.

For now, all signs point to Grimes reporting to the Sixers fold at the start of the season. It’s worth noting that both sides can lock up a deadline extension regarding his qualifying offer.

Grimes had a stellar second half of the season after he was acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in February 2025. In his 28 games, he averaged a career-high 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.

With the 76ers looking to regain their mojo after a dismal last season, the focus will be on retaining Grimes’ services after his impressive production the previous season in the absence of their prominent names. Only time will tell what the contract framework will ultimately look like.
