On Friday night at Crypto.com Arena, the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the visiting Dallas Mavericks, which gave Luka Dončić another chance to cook his former team, and he did just that.
Even though Austin Reaves stole the show, dropping a game-high 38 points, Dončić wasn’t far off, matching his Lakers teammate’s offensive output, as he finished with 35 points against Dallas, helping Los Angeles improve its record to 14-4 while winning its sixth straight game.
Along with getting the win over the Mavericks, the Lakers are now perfect in NBA Cup play at 4-0, while Dallas has been eliminated from the tournament and falls to 5-15 on the season, which is turning out to be more and more of a disaster for head coach Jason Kidd with each passing game.
Lakers’ Luka Dončić Continues to Snub Jason Kidd
After the game, Dončić connected with some of his former teammates on the court, such as Kyrie Irving, with whom he clearly still has a strong bond. Kidd, however, continues to get snubbed by the Slovenian superstar, which has not gone unnoticed.
Ben Rogers of The Ben & Skin Show pointed out how Dončić doesn’t want anything to do with his former head coach.

“Fascinating to watch the absolute lack of interaction between JKidd & Luka before, during, and after games. Absolute crickets,” Rogers wrote.
It seems as though the relationship between Dončić and Kidd is nonexistent, and that seems to be painfully obvious to the fans, who shared their reaction after the game, as this fan pointed out.

One fan dug up the speculation that Kidd was in the know-how of the trade. “Luka isnt dumb some dallas fans might fall for it but most know kidd played a part in it,” they wrote.

One fan correctly pointed out that it was the third such instance.
Nah 3rd game and Luka still hasn’t acknowledged Kidd 😭

Another was absolutely cut-throat in criticizing Kidd, while writing, “Luka knows Kidd is a snake.”
It’ll be interesting to see if more information comes out about Kidd and Dončić and whether their relationship was even strong to begin with.
In the meantime, however, these two teams are heading in completely opposite directions, with the Lakers looking like one of the best teams in the league and the Mavericks potentially on pace to miss the NBA playoffs entirely, having won only five games thus far to get the Cooper Flagg era underway.
The next time these two teams will meet will be on Jan. 24 in Dallas at the American Airlines Center. They’ll face off against each other in Los Angeles on Feb. 12 and one final time on April 5 in Dallas.
Only time will tell where these two Western Conference teams will be heading into their final showdown in April, as the Lakers could be playing for a high seed while the Mavericks could be looking at the 2026 NBA Draft.
