A few weeks back, it was reported on NBA Insider Marc Stein’s substack that one Western Conference executive had hinted that “It’s gonna be a crazy summer. There’s going to be a lot of movement.”
Since then, the first domino has started falling with Phoenix Suns player Kevin Durant and the team he will end up with this offseason. A few days back, the speculation grew stronger when NBA insider Shams Charania reported that three teams had the highest possibility of landing Durant: Minnesota, Houston, and Miami.
Now it seems like Durant has finally found his new home.
Rockets Fans Are Loving the New Kevin Durant Trade
After intense speculation over the past few days, it’s now official. According to ESPN’s Charania, the Phoenix Suns have traded Durant to the Houston Rockets. And in exchange, Phoenix receives Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks.

KD will now be teaming up with young Rockets stars like Amen Thompson and Alperen Şengün. Thompson, known for his flashy court vision and relentless energy, averaged 14.1 points per game this season and Şengün averaged 19.1.
With Durant’s elite scoring and playoff experience, this trio could cause serious problems for the rest of the league.

While the trade caught many off guard, fans believe Houston came out on top. Green who was once seen as a franchise cornerstone never quite blossomed into a reliable leader. In the postseason he only averaged 13.3 points per game.
Brooks meanwhile averaged 12.3 points in the postseason. Their numbers clearly indicate that the 2024-25 postseason run was something that would stay on their minds for years to come.
Ime Udoka has been the Rockets’ head coach since 2023 and is widely known for his intensity, passion and no-nonsense style on the sidelines. While Durant has played under high-profile coaches before Udoka’s demanding style is a different challenge altogether.
Fans are curious whether KD now in the latter stages of his career will adapt to Udoka’s approach.
“Dammmmmmm but the real question is, can he handle Udoka’s coaching?” wrote one user.

While most fans were focused on how Durant’s elite scoring, playoff experience and leadership would elevate the young Rockets roster one fan sparked a different kind of conversation.
“KD Rainbow is complete,” wrote the fan.

All things considered Houston has taken a bold step toward championship contention. With Durant now leading a dynamic and youthful squad, the Rockets have gone from rebuilding to reloading.
