NBA Fans Confused By Golden State Warriors’ Latest Roster Move

The Golden State Warriors made a surprise roster move before the start of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Seth Curry is coming off a year where he appeared in 68 games for the Charlotte Hornets.

The former Duke star had averages of 6.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 47.8% from the field and 45.6% from the three-point range in 68 games.

Over the offseason, Curry signed a deal with the Golden State Warriors.

Many around the NBA world were excited due to the fact that he would be playing with his brother (NBA legend Steph Curry).

Golden State Warriors Waive Seth Curry

However, the Warriors have now waived (Seth) Curry.

Via Golden State Warriors PR: “Warriors waive guards LJ Cryer & Seth Curry:”

At first, many NBA fans were confused by the roster move.

@mudmanson2: “wait please tell me we’re resigning cryer too along with seth please”

@th3sportsfr3ak: “wtf?? Why!?!?”

@acedog32551138: “WHY SETH THEY GONNA BE SPLASH BROTHERS”

@TenPins12: “What happened behind the scenes? Wth?”

@HannitySkip: “Disrespectful to use Curry in a dozen promotions and then waive him.”

Anthony Slater of ESPN then reported more details about how the Warriors will bring back Curry at some point this season.

Via Slater: “The Warriors have waived Seth Curry with the expectation that he will return to the team at some point in the first couple months. The Warriors are hard-capped at the second apron and just below it, so move is procedural. It is anticipated Seth will be back.”

In addition to the Hornets, Curry has also spent time playing for the Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Portland Trail Blazers, Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers.

His career averages are 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 47.1% from the field and 43.3% from the three-point range in 550 games.

Via ClutchPoints: “Seth Curry just got waived by the Warriors… but don’t cue the farewell tears yet! This is just Warriors front office doing salary-cap yoga; they had to make a cap-clearing move before the season tips off, and Seth ended up being the odd man out.

For now.

The plan? He’s expected to be back in November once the Warriors sort out the roster math.

Bay fans, keep the #30 + #31 jersey combo in your pockets…the reunion tour is just taking an early intermission”

The Warriors will play their first game of the 2025-26 season on October 21 when they visit Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers.
