NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Reveals 1 Thing Fans Are Dying To See

In a recent interview, NBA commissioner Adam Silver revealed what he thinks league fans want to see more of.

The NBA, despite multiple changes over the years, has remained a fan’s game at heart. Loyal followers have watched the league for decades, picking everything from their favorite teams and players to their most-beloved arenas.

Of course, regardless of the league’s popularity, the NBA is continually seeking to increase its visibility. That being said, commissioner Adam Silver keeps a close eye on fan behaviour and trends, easily identifying the one thing NBA fans are interested in.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Reveals Insight Into Fans’ Psyche

During Wednesday’s game between the Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets, Silver spoke during the broadcast.

While discussing what NBA fans like to see, Silver drew a comparison between offense and defense. Although offense fuels games and brings in the big, flashy wins, it’s raw basketball defense that remains a fan favorite.

Silver, explaining how fans want to watch defense, said: “People love scoring, but one thing, and I think maybe the league over-calibrated in terms of offense at times, because what fans clearly love, too, is defense.”

He added that the current NBA is at a pace that “people enjoy”.

“They want to see physical defense,” Silver said. “They don’t want to see things that are unsportsmanlike, but they want to see guys body up and stuff.”

Associated with the NBA since the 90s, Silver is the fifth commissioner in league history. He took over from David Stern in 2014, previously serving as the chief operating officer and deputy commissioner.

Having said that, fans have often noted the stark contrast between Silver’s league and Stern’s NBA. And although some enjoy the fast-paced games and offense-led teams, many have come to miss the 2000s.

Furthermore, Silver and the referees have been criticized for rigging games for years, with discussions over controversial calls going viral every week.

Silver is Focused on the NBA’s Expansion in the Future

Over the past few months, rumors have pointed to the NBA expanding to new US cities, along with a brand new European league. And while no date or timeline has been set, the NBA seems to be working towards both goals.

Despite fans’ concerns, Silver reassured everyone that the two projects remain separate.

“No, they are on completely independent tracks, and even different people at the league office who are thinking about the domestic expansion versus what the opportunity is in Europe,” Silver said in a previous interview. “I am a big believer that there very well may be an opportunity for a viable NBA-style league in Europe. And that work is continuing.”

Silver added that he also met with multiple possible stakeholders in Europe.

That being said, with the 2025-26 NBA season underway, one can only wait for an official announcement in the future.
