As the Golden State Warriors look to return to title contention, former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins has suggested trading for a Boston Celtics star to help maximize Stephen Curry’s final years in the league.
Perkins believes that the Warriors need to make a move if they want to make the most out of their waning win-now window.
Kendrick Perkins Tells Golden State Warriors to Trade for $285,393,640 Star
The Warriors have failed to make the postseason in two of the last three years. With Curry now 38, Perkins believes it is high time the Warriors bring in a younger star to help the two-time NBA MVP.
Perkins, who won the NBA championship with the Celtics in 2008, believes that Jaylen Brown could be exactly the player the Warriors need to upgrade their roster.
“It may not be the perfect piece, but adding Jaylen Brown to this roster and figuring out a way to bring him in is an upgrade and help for Stephen Curry. We don’t know when Jimmy Butler is going to come back. And when he does come back, we don’t know what he’s going to look like. That’s why you go get a young, 28-29-year-old Brown,” Perkins said on ESPN’s First Take.
Brown, who is currently on a five-year, $285,393,640 contract, is facing an uncertain future with the Celtics after they aggressively tried and failed to include him in a proposed trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Speculation continues that the Celtics could look to shop Brown to other teams, and Perkins believes it is high time the Warriors make a move.
The NBA analyst noted that the Warriors’ roster is among the oldest in the league and called on the front office to make moves to ensure the team returns to contention in Curry’s last few years.
“When you talk about maxing out Curry’s last few years with the Golden State Warriors and giving him a fast shot to winning the NBA championship. Do you realize five of the top 25 oldest players in the NBA are on the Golden State Warriors? They continue to get older, a senior citizen group. And Curry is still playing at an elite level,” he said.
This offseason is shaping up to be a key one for the Warriors, who started their summer by drafting Yaxel Lendeborg with the 11th pick of the NBA Draft.
The futures of several key players are still unresolved, and it will be interesting to see what moves the Warriors make in the coming months.
