‘For the Brand of Basketball’ — NBA Champion Urges Warriors to Pair Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo

Former NBA star Iman Shumpert is all in for the idea of Giannis Antetokounmpo joining the Golden State Warriors this summer.

The Milwaukee Bucks superstar is currently in the middle of a dramatic aftermath of what has been a forgettable season for the franchise. With his future in Milwaukee uncertain, the Antetokounmpo rumor mills have begun churning again.

NBA Champion Loves the Thought of Stephen Curry and Giannis Antetokounmpo Sharing the Floor As Warriors

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Shumpert was asked about where he would like to see Antetokounmpo next. The former Cavaliers star was excited at the possibility of ‘The Greek Freak’ heading to the West to play alongside Curry.

“I would love to see Giannis become a Golden State Warrior. I would just love to see that,” Shumpert said. Steph Curry, coming up at the end of his career, is a guy who can’t have too much on his shoulders, right? We keep talking about it. But when you think about Giannis, Giannis is also a guy who is like KD and needs someone to assist him with decision-making down the stretch.”

“Also, he needs somebody who can fill it up from the three-point line, as well as shoot the free throw really well down the stretch. So when I pair those two together, I understand they got Jimmy [Butler] over there,” he added. “I know they got some contractual things that they’re going to have to work out. But if I see those two together for the brand of basketball, Oh boy.”

At the time of writing, there is no word on whether he will lace up for the Bucks next season. The forward revealed he was not offered an extension yet when he spoke to reporters during the team’s exit interviews.

“We’ll see when we get there,” Antetokounmpo said, per The Athletic. “Until we get to October, it’s eight months, seven months. It’s been a long time. But somebody has to offer you that for you to sign. I haven’t been offered an extension. So, if that is on the table, then I will try to make the best decision for my family and me.”

The Warriors were previously linked to Antetokounmpo, and per reports, offered major draft capital for the Bucks when discussing the trade during the trade deadline window. However, there were no moves made, and the two-time NBA MVP ended up finishing his season with the Bucks.

For the Warriors, adding Antetokounmpo would not just mean depleting their picks but also doing away with key rotational pieces. However, it is a move that they have shown they are willing to make to win another title in the Curry era. It remains to be seen if the blockbuster trade goes through in the offseason.
