Bill Simmons Gives a Blueprint To Pair Stephen Curry With Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio
On a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, The Ringer’s Bill Simmons teamed up with Joe House to pitch a jaw-dropping blockbuster deal involving the two-time MVP.
He proposed that the Spurs should use their treasure chest of assets, including All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox and multiple first-round picks, to target Golden State’s franchise cornerstone.
“It’s not a ring chase. But what if San Antonio, with Fox and all the picks they have, just said, [Expletive] it?” said Simmons. “Went to Golden State, like, we’ll do Fox, you put the picks together any way you want, for a couple years of Steph here. We’re trying to acquire the 2024 Olympic Steph, and he goes to San Antonio, tries to grab a couple more. It’s pretty interesting.”

Simmons pointed out that while fans want Stephen Curry to finish his career with the Charlotte Hornets, the Spurs hold the draft capital to make the Warriors pause and consider.
“People always say, like, oh, they’re trading back to Charlotte. He’s (Stephen Curry) not doing that. He’s not winning anything in Charlotte. But with San Antonio, who has Atlanta’s first-round pick, they have a swap with Boston, swaps with Dallas or Minnesota in 2030, a 2030 swap with Sacramento, all their firsts, and other stuff too,” added Simmons.
Pairing Curry’s elite playmaking with Wembanyama’s rim protection and length would instantly give the Spurs the spark they seemed to lack during their 2026 Finals battle against the New York Knicks’ unstoppable squad. The Spurs entered the NBA Finals after a 12-year drought but ultimately lost 4-1 to the Knicks.
Since being drafted 7th overall in 2009, the 12-time All-Star has spent 17 seasons representing the Warriors. In 1,069 games, he has averaged 24.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 47.1% from the field and 42.2% from three-point range.
With 4,248 three-pointers made, Curry is the NBA’s all-time three-point leader and has established himself as one of the most lethal deep shooters in NBA history.
For Golden State, landing De’Aaron Fox alongside a mountain of draft picks provides a direct path to a deeper, more balanced roster.
While the Spurs have the ideal asset pool and championship timeline to make such a blockbuster move, trading away the greatest shooter and the ultimate offensive weapon remains a nearly unthinkable gamble for the Warriors.
