If you’re a basketball fan, you know the NBA schedule can be absolutely relentless. We’re talking about games almost every single night of the week. Players often complain about those brutal back-to-back games where they barely have time to rest between matchups.
So when you check your NBA app and see absolutely nothing scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, you might be scratching your head. What’s going on? Why the sudden break? Well, there’s actually a pretty exciting reason for this pause in the regular season action.
Real Reason for Lack of NBA Games Over This Weekend
The answer is simple, as it is the NBA All-Star Weekend 2026! This is one of the biggest events on the basketball calendar, and for it, the league pauses regular games so everyone can focus on the festivities.
Things kick off on Friday at 7 p.m. ET with the Ruffles All-Star Celebrity Game at the Kia Forum.
This game is always a blast because you get to see celebrities trying their hand at basketball, and clearly, this year’s lineup is stacked. Team One features GloRilla, Keegan-Michael Key, Rome Flynn, Dylan Wang, Shams Charania, Jenna Bandy, Rick Schnall, Tacko Fall, Jeremy Lin, and Cafu.
Going up against them is Team Two with Simu Liu, Cody Jones, Badshah, Andre De Grasse, Taylor Frankie Paul, Mat Ishbia, Jason “White Chocolate” Williams, Nicolas Vansteenberghe, Mustard, Adrien Nuñez, and Keenan Allen.
Right after the celebrity fun wraps up, we get the Rising Stars game. This showcases the NBA’s young talent divided into Team Austin, Team Melo, Team Vince, and Team T-Mac.
Then, on Saturday, which is Feb. 14, the day starts with Commissioner Adam Silver’s All-Star Conference. It is then followed by the mini-tournament everyone loves.
We’re talking about the State Farm 3-Point Contest, the Kia Shooting Stars competition, and the always-spectacular AT&T Slam Dunk Contest. These events showcase the league’s best skills.
Feb. 15, which is a Sunday, is what it’s all about. On that day, the actual All-Star Game will take place. This year, the NBA is going with three teams. Team USA Stars includes Scottie Barnes, Devin Booker, Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren, Anthony Edwards, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Johnson, and Tyrese Maxey.
Team USA Stripes features Jaylen Brown, Jalen Brunson, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, De’Aaron Fox, and Stephen Curry. Although Curry won’t suit up due to injury so Brandon Ingram gets extra playing time.
Then there’s the World Team with Deni Avdija, Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Pascal Siakam, Karl-Anthony Towns, Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Unfortunately, the Greek Freak and SGA are out with injuries. So Norman Powell and Alperen Şengün are filling in.
Last year, the NBA experimented with a new format where teams were drafted by the “Inside the NBA” hosts. While it was creative, not everyone loved the idea. This time, the league has returned to a more traditional style and has also leaned into the USA vs. World concept. It remains to be seen how fans will react to this format.
