Perhaps the most exciting development to come out of the NBA returning to NBC is the addition of the legendary Michael Jordan to the broadcast team. Since retiring for good in 2003, Jordan has never really been one to conduct interviews.
He gave quite a few interviews during his playing days and during the filming of “The Last Dance.” However, this will mark the first foray into broadcasting, and you can watch his first halftime segment below!
Chicago Bulls Legend Michael Jordan Makes Broadcasting Debut With NBC
Jordan has his own segment on NBA on NBC called “MJ: Insights to Excellence,” where he discusses various topics with co-host Mike Tirico at halftime. He is a “special contributor” to NBC’s broadcasts, and his first segment alongside Tirico aired during halftime of the 2025-26 season opener between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
During the first-ever “MJ: Insights to Excellence” segments, viewers got to hear Jordan break down why he no longer plays basketball, what he misses most in retirement, why he decided to join NBC’s broadcast team, and much more. Check out Jordan’s full segment with NBC below:
“We have an obligation to pay it forward. That’s part of what this is all about.”

Next week, Jordan will be back to talk about load management in today’s NBA and why he always tried to play all 82 games in a season. “MJ: Insights to Excellence” segments will continue to air each week throughout the season.
The GOAT provided plenty of good insight when he looked back on his dominance with the Chicago Bulls during “The Last Dance.” He had absolutely no filter when talking about his teammates, opponents, success, and even controversies from his playing days. Now, he gets to comment on the modern NBA and its most notable players and teams.
Many have looked forward to Jordan’s commentary, as he is commonly recognized as the best player to ever play in the NBA. Now, viewers will regularly get to see his analysis on the channel that he regularly dominated nightly in the 1990s (and technically two years of the 2000s).
NBA fans can’t wait to hear Jordan break down the league’s top teams and players because, simply put, it’s Michael Jordan. Jordan is sure to provide his own unfiltered views, which should give NBC plenty of entertainment value through its coverage of NBA games.
The excitement surrounding Jordan joining NBC topped that of NFL legend Tom Brady joining Fox given the fact that he has largely been out of the public eye. The fact that Jordan’s segments are so highly anticipated goes to show how popular he is over 20 years after he retired from the NBA for good.
Whether viewers think he is the best basketball player of all time or not, NBC landing him as part of their broadcast team was a genius move to get fans to tune in. As if Roundball Rock wasn’t exciting enough, Jordan’s segments have fans buzzing about the NBA returning to NBC.
