‘Concerns Are Very Real’ — NBA Analysts Warn Miami Heat Against Trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo Amid Escalating Rumors

Analysts Zach Lowe and Bill Simmons caution the Miami Heat against trading their young core for an aging Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo are hurtling toward a seismic divorce.

Following a disastrous 2025-26 campaign that saw the superstar forward suit up in just 36 games while the Bucks missed the playoffs, offseason trade buzz continues to ramp up.

The Miami Heat and Boston Celtics have emerged as the heavy favorites to land Antetokounmpo. A blockbuster deal would shake up the Eastern Conference as teams scramble to make moves to compete with the New York Knicks.

Analysts Raise Concerns as Giannis Antetokounmpo Trade Saga Reaches Boiling Point

After the Bucks limped to a dismal 32-50 record and missed the postseason for the first time since 2016, the fractured relationship between Antetokounmpo and Milwaukee was evident.

As the Bucks look to enter rebuilding mode, Miami and Boston have been touted as the likeliest landing spots for the 10-time All-Star.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Miami is aggressively proposing a package centered around Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and multiple first-round picks.

The Celtics are countering with a completely different approach, reportedly floating an offer centered on star wing Jaylen Brown. For a team that blew a 3-1 first-round playoff series lead to the Philadelphia 76ers almost two months ago, Antetokounmpo could be the plug-and-play frontcourt hub they need.

Milwaukee understands these dynamics perfectly and continues to field competitive offers.

However, despite all the trade chatter and Antetokounmpo-Heat links, two analysts remain unconvinced that the risk would be worthwhile.

Sounding the alarm on a potential deal, Zach Lowe highlighted the long-term danger of Miami gutting its roster to outbid Boston.

“The concerns I think are very real for Miami,” Lowe said. “If we do this and all our first-round picks are out the door, and [Kasparas] Jakučionis is out the door, and all our young guys are out the door, what is it going to amount to?”

Lowe noted that the Heat keeping their assets would preserve optionality for the next available star.

Bill Simmons echoed that hesitation and questioned whether acquiring Antetokounmpo actually moves the needle enough to justify the exorbitant price tag.

“You’re getting a guy that hasn’t made even the conference finals in five years, who has had trouble staying healthy,” Simmons said.

“He’s 31, 32 years old, and you’re banking that he’s gonna completely change your playoff destiny. The more you put in the trade, the less likely that goes.”

While Antetokounmpo averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.4 assists this past season, his low game count paints a troubling picture for any team mortgaging their future to land him.

A trade for Antetokounmpo could strip Miami of the depth required to survive an 82-game regular-season schedule. However, according to the latest reports from NBA insider Marc Stein, Boston still has a “real shot” to win the ongoing bidding war.
