Mavericks Insider Reveals Shocking Twist For Jason Kidd After Nico Harrison’s Firing

An NBA insider reports that Jason Kidd could take on a surprising role with the Dallas Mavericks following Nico Harrison’s firing.

With the firing of former Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison on Tuesday, there’s a big void the team needs to fill. Dallas made a quick fix by naming assistant general managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi as co-interim general managers. However, the Mavericks plan to look for a more capable leader to fill that position.

One of the prominent names being discussed is head coach Jason Kidd. The pressing question is: what role, if any, will the Mavericks have in store for Kidd in the near future?

Jason Kidd Potentially Joining Mavericks’ Front Office

NBA insider Chris Mannix reported that Kidd is a possible candidate to replace Harrison as general manager. While the Mavericks are also exploring candidates like Dennis Lindsey, the former Jazz executive and current franchise advisor, Kidd remains a highly respected figure within Dallas and possesses an intimate knowledge of the team.

“Then there is Jason Kidd. Kidd is in good standing in Dallas, both with ownership — which has extended him twice — and a fan base that remembers how Kidd helped deliver a championship as a player and steer the team to the Finals as a coach,” Mannix wrote.

Mannix added that if Kidd were to accept the general manager position, Dirk Nowitzki could return to the Mavericks organization. While Mannix did not outline what role Nowitzki would play, it’s possible he could step into Kidd’s current coaching position.

“His hands are (publicly, at least) clean in the DonÄŤić deal — Harrison gave him cover when he said he didn’t inform Kidd of the trade until it was completed — and no one is pointing fingers his way for the flop of the Mavs’ injury-riddled roster. Under a Kidd regime, Dirk Nowitzki could be brought back into the fold,” Mannix added.

At this point, it remains unclear what Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont has planned. Dallas sits 14th in the Western Conference with a 3-8 record. The franchise faces tough challenges as it tries to stabilize its front office while attempting to salvage the remainder of the 2025-26 season.

With that in mind, Dumont will need to act quickly to find a capable solution if he hopes to deliver the success Harrison initially promised when trading Luka Dončić last season.
