The Dallas Mavericks fans finally have a chance to watch their former franchise cornerstone come back home. However, Luka Dončić will be with the Los Angeles Lakers, intent on displaying that the organization made a big mistake by trading him away. While the relationship between Dončić and the Mavs’ upper management is clearly not the best, the fanbase is a different and more complicated story.
Since the Mavs were coming off a trip to the NBA Finals, the decision to trade away their superstar was simply too much for some fans to process. Considering the team has virtually no chance of coming close to doing that again, the organization decided to pay tribute to Dončić with a special bonus.

The Dallas Mavericks’ feelings of frustration and conflict have only increased since Dončić was traded. Not only did they lose a superstar who is yet to hit his prime, but the Mavs also lost multiple stars to injuries and have a serious lack of momentum.
Because of all their bad decisions, the management knew that allowing their fans to operate without restrictions would cause issues. Therefore, the Mavs introduced white shirts with the message “Thanks for everything” and will give them to fans present at the game.

Given that the entire Mavs fanbase felt frustrated over recent events, they might have worn Lakers jerseys with Dončić’s number. However, the Mavs organization appears to be unclear on how to proceed. After all, they ended terms on bad terms with Dončić and essentially kicked him out of the city of Dallas without giving him any prior warning or notice.
The organization appears to be at fault in this case. Treating a superstar badly and then putting up a special tribute with long videos and special t-shirts to appease the public is not a subtle move. In fact, it could make the public more emotional and frustrated rather than uncaring and hostile.
As things stand, there is no denying that Dončić is in a better situation. After joining the Lakers, he helped establish the team’s top offense and has given them hope of contending for a title.
While things appear to be going very well for the Lakers fans, the Mavs fans will feel torn between cheering and booing if Dončić puts on a dominating performance against his old team. Hopefully, the Mavs will be able to end the season on a good note with Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson and prepare for their first postseason without Dončić’s presence as the team’s leader.
