The three-team trade that sent the league into a state of shock back in February was headlined by Luka Doncic. However, the Los Angeles Lakers’ guard was not the only one wounded by the move.
That trade also included Max Christie, who will play in his first full season for the Dallas Mavericks this year. Christie, who had earlier described the move away from L.A. as “overwhelming”, seems to have settled well in Texas and now shows love to the organization at the Mavericks Academy Hoop Camp.

Max Christie Labels Mavericks Move As the Best Day of His NBA Career
Christie entered the league in 2022 upon being drafted No. 35 overall by the Lakers. After a couple of developing seasons, Christie started to give Los Angeles returns on their investment in the 2024-25 season as he enjoyed his best form with the Lakers.
The former Lakers guard was promoted to the starting five in December and saw his points average rise to 10.5 over the next two months, showcasing the 3-and-D ability coach J.J. Redick highlighted at the time of his arrival.
But when the Lakers discovered Doncic was available, the decision to trade Christie became a no-brainer for the organization. While the Lakers surely seemed to believe in the guard’s potential, especially judging by the four-year, $32 million contract they handed him in July 2024, the opportunity to secure a superstar was simply too tempting.
But it appears that what had then seemed grim to Christie has turned out to be a positive move for the young guard, as he has praised the Mavericks.

Present at the Frisco Athletic Center for Mavericks Academy Hoop Camp, Christie participated in a Q&A session with the young campers.
One of the questions asked him what his favorite day of his NBA career was, to which Christie swiftly replied, “It was when I got traded to the Mavericks.”
Although the answer could be biased due to his ongoing affiliations with the Mavs, Christie’s positive start for Dallas seems to have him in high spirits.
In the 32 games Christie has played since his mid-season arrival, he has started in 11, highlighting the team’s belief in the prospect. The belief seems to have resonated well with the young guard as he looks to build on a solid start to his career in Dallas.
The camp attendees asked Christie multiple questions, some of which included his career high at any level and the name of his favorite restaurant. The answers were 51 and Nick & Sam’s.
