‘Fire This Pretender’ — Calls Mount for Magic To Cut Ties With Jamahl Mosley After Orlando’s Dreadful 1-3 Start

Magic fans call for coach Jamahl Mosley’s dismissal as Orlando drops to 1-3 following a disappointing loss to the injury-depleted 76ers.

The Orlando Magic fell 136-124 in Monday’s road matchup against the banged-up Philadelphia 76ers, dropping to 1-3 through four games. Following the letdown, vexed Magic fans began calling for their team to part ways with coach Jamahl Mosley.

Orlando entered the 2025-26 campaign widely projected to be a top-three team in the Eastern Conference, having added Desmond Bane as a tertiary scoring option and floor spacer. The franchise appeared poised to take a major step forward from last season’s 27th-ranked offensive rating (108.9) and league-worst 3-point percentage (31.8%). Instead, concerns about the team’s spacing and all-around offensive system linger.

The Magic shot just 8-for-25 from deep (32.0%) against Philadelphia and missed 12 free throws, going 26-for-38 (68.4%). Meanwhile, the defensive-minded group couldn’t contain the 76ers’ starting backcourt of Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. The standout duo combined for 69 points without stars Joel Embiid (knee) and Paul George (knee), leaving Orlando’s fan base scrambling for answers.

Why Are Magic Fans Calling for Jamahl Mosley’s Job?

Monday’s loss marked Orlando’s third straight, with all three coming against teams that most pundits predicted to finish below them in the East (Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia). Magic fans promptly took to X to voice their frustrations, with the overwhelming majority pinning the blame on Mosley for failing to implement reliable offensive schemes.

“Bane comes to orlando and immediately under Mosley gets the worse possible looks in his career. A team of this much talent looking like THE SAME league worse offense is coaching malpractice. We need to fire this pretender asap,” one fan asserted.

“Fire Mosley. This offense is hot garbage,” another remarked.

“Mosley is getting fired. When not if,” one user declared.

“‘Find the open man’ isn’t an offensive scheme. Jamahl Mosley hasn’t implemented an offense and he’s been our HC since 2021. High school coaches could do better,” another vented.

“jamahl mosley needs to be fired midseason. there is no other option. he’s running this team into the ground,” one commented.

“I’ve been saying for the Last 2 season that the Magic have out grown Mosley … Mosley is a good Coach but for this Magic team to get over the Hump they need a Guy that is Pushing that Offensive Mindset,” another chimed in.

After inheriting a lottery squad in 2021, Mosley has helped turn Orlando around, overseeing back-to-back playoff appearances. However, with expectations mounting for the organization to take the next step and maximize young stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner’s partnership, bringing in a tactical offensive strategist may be necessary.

Since last season, the Magic’s offensive rating (108.1) and 3-point percentage (29.1%) have declined through four outings, troubling signs for an aspiring contender. Their next chance to bounce back comes during Wednesday’s road clash against the Detroit Pistons (2-2).
