The Los Angeles Lakers came into the 2025-26 NBA season with a lot of questions surrounding the storied franchise and what the future would hold with superstar guard Luka Dončić leading the way and LeBron James potentially entering his last season in the league.
Although James has yet to play a game this season, as he continues to recover from sciatica on his right side, the Lakers haven’t missed a beat throughout the first 14 games. The team was able to get the best of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, pulling off a 24-point blowout to end its five-game road trip, putting Los Angeles in fourth place in the Western Conference with a record of 10-4.

Luka Dončić Opens Up About Impressive Lakers Chemistry
Despite several injuries to key players on the roster, including Dončić, Austin Reaves, and James, the Lakers are cruising, as they’ve proven to be a squad much better than anticipated.
After the impressive blowout win against the Bucks, Dončić opened up about the team’s budding chemistry and how much fun he’s having during his first full season with the Lakers, via Oh No He Didn’t X Account.
“It’s great chemistry,” Dončić said. “When I came I was probably the more quiet (one), trying to get to know people. But right now I’m just being myself, just joking around a lot, trash talking. I think one of the biggest things for the team to win is have great chemistry and I think we have that.”

Even though the Lakers haven’t been perfect, as they suffered two blowout losses to the Atlanta Hawks and Oklahoma City Thunder during this five-game road trip, there’s no doubting that this team has great chemistry and a lot of potential to make some noise throughout the 2025-26 campaign.
One of the main concerns coming into this season was the team’s defense and lack of game-changers on that end of the floor, but veteran newcomer Marcus Smart has been solid, along with Deandre Ayton and even Dončić, who has stepped up his play defensively.
The biggest question moving forward is whether the new-look Lakers can sustain this level of play while proving to be a force to be reckoned with in a stacked Western Conference, led by the defending NBA champion Thunder and Nikola Jokić’s Denver Nuggets.
If the Lakers can stay relatively healthy and take their game to another level once James returns, Los Angeles has a chance to be mentioned in the same breath as the Nuggets and Thunder, as teams in title contention in the West.
