The sale of the Los Angeles Lakers for a whopping reported $10 billion continues to make headlines. What’s confirmed so far is that Governor Jeanie Buss retains her role after the family purchased the iconic franchise in 1979 for $67.5 million. The team will now see businessman and Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter take control as the majority stakeholder.
Soon after the deal, the talking point was the response from the team’s superstars, LeBron James and Luka Dončić. The latter addressed the sale on social media hours after the news broke.
Luka Dončić ‘Excited About the Future’ After Reports of the Lakers Sale to Mark Walter
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Dončić addressed the business move with a wholesome tweet. “The Lakers are an amazing organization. I’m looking forward to meeting Mark and excited about the future,” the Slovenian said.
“I am also grateful to Jeanie and the Buss family for welcoming me to LA, and I’m happy that Jeanie will continue to be involved. I look forward to working with both of them to win championships!”

The latest developments suggest that the Purple and Gold have an important offseason ahead of them. With Dončić sharing his thoughts, the Lakers will need to sort out his extension and construct a roster around him and James as the 40-year-old enters his 23rd season in the NBA.
Los Angeles last won the championship in 2020 and has been a playoff contender at best since. They were elevated to bona fide favorites after the blockbuster trade that saw Dončić arrive in LA, but the side crashed out in the first round of the playoffs this season.
Reports said that Dončić was given a “short heads-up” about the mammoth sale. Walter is also the majority owner of the Dodgers, and the franchise now takes a new direction.
James is expected to return for one more season on the offseason front, and Dončić is likely to re-sign with the franchise.
The team has already been linked with multiple free agents and potential trade targets this summer as they look to improve their depth and bolster the center department after Anthony Davis’ departure left a huge void. It now remains to be seen how the new leadership operates this summer.
