Lakers Superstar Luka Dončić Snubbed As NBA GMs Name the Best PG in the League

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić was snubbed as the best PG in the upcoming campaign in the latest GM survey.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar point guard Luka Dončić is gearing up for his first full season with the team this year. The Slovenian has been sweating it out in the training camp and has tirelessly worked on his physique during the offseason. Most recently, he led his country to the FIBA Euro basketball championship quarterfinals, so the 26-year-old seems to be in a rich vein of form heading into the 2025-26 NBA season.

While many perceive Dončić as the best point guard in the league, the latest GM survey dares to think otherwise. The latest annual survey, ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, gave their rating on many aspects of the game, both at the individual and team levels, in a blockbuster season preview.

The GM survey had disappointing news for the Lakers’ fans, as Dončić was snubbed from being the best PG in the upcoming season.

Who Did the GM Survey Pick as the Best PG Ahead of Luka Dončić?

The GM survey voted Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the reigning KIA MVP, to be the best point guard in the upcoming NBA season ahead of the Lakers’ superstar. Shae received 73% of the votes, while Dončić managed 17%, ahead of third-placed Stephen Curry. Dončić was placed first in one of the metrics, as he was named the best small forward ahead of the new season, with 40% of the votes.

In addition to the two metrics, Dončić was placed third as the best shooting guard with 7% of the votes. The Slovenian became the only player in the league to be voted top three in four metrics of the GM survey. Dončić was placed second in the KIA MVP voting ahead of the new season with 10% of the votes.

Dončić is a five-time All-Star with a world of talent. After joining the Dallas Mavericks in 2018, he quickly became the face of the organization and even led the team to the NBA Finals in 2024.

While many expected Dončić to stay in Dallas for the long haul, one of the biggest trade deals sent him to the Lakers ahead of the midseason trade deadline in February. An unfazed Dončić understands the business aspect of the NBA and will no longer be hoping to win silverware in the Lakers’ iconic gold and purple.

Dončić has yet to hit the ground running with the Lakers in the preseason, as he hasn’t played in the first two games. The Lakers will be in action again at home on Sunday night as they host the Golden State Warriors for their third preseason game ahead of the new campaign. Dončić could be a potential candidate to start the game for the home team on Sunday night.
