Almost a year into his trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, Luka Dončić returned to play against the Dallas Mavericks. While a significant amount of time has passed since the move, Dončić’s return to the American Airlines Center remains emotional — both for the Slovenian star and his fans.
What Candid Thoughts Did Lakers’ Luka Dončić Share on Returning to Dallas After His Trade?
Of course, Dončić, who led the Lakers to another victory, was asked about returning to his longtime home.
During the Lakers’ 116-110 win against the Mavericks, Dončić was asked about his return to Dallas. Naturally, the 26-year-old had a few things to say.
Despite the abrupt nature of the 2025 trade, Dončić remains deeply thankful to the city of Dallas and his dedicated fans.
“I was happy to be back here. I went to my house,” he said. “Saw my cars. But, you know, obviously, (it’s) always going to be emotional. I really appreciate how they cheer for me when I was introduced. And it’s always gonna be a special place for me.”
The overall pick number three in 2018 by the Mavericks, almost everyone had assumed Dončić would retire with the team. And since his trade was heavily criticized, fans have continued to support their favorite player even when he’s in LA.
