Despite the abrupt nature of the 2025 trade, Dončić remains deeply thankful to the city of Dallas and his dedicated fans.

“I was happy to be back here. I went to my house,” he said. “Saw my cars. But, you know, obviously, (it’s) always going to be emotional. I really appreciate how they cheer for me when I was introduced. And it’s always gonna be a special place for me.”

The overall pick number three in 2018 by the Mavericks, almost everyone had assumed Dončić would retire with the team. And since his trade was heavily criticized, fans have continued to support their favorite player even when he’s in LA.

As Dončić mentioned, Dallas fans choose to honor him during player entries before the game. The crowd welcomed him with a cheerful standing ovation, clearly emotional over his return.
