LeBron James continues his record-breaking ways in Year 23 of his storied career. On Saturday night against the Orlando Magic, he officially made history. He became the NBA’s all-time leader in games played as he made his 1,612th appearance.
Despite James playing on the road, the crowd responded with enthusiasm for him.
Orlando Crowd Reacts to LeBron James Breaking NBA Games Played Record
As the Lakers faced the Magic, James made his presence felt immediately. With 11:24 remaining in the first quarter, he delivered a powerful dunk that energized the Kia Center crowd.
That highlight was just seconds into James making history, becoming the NBA’s all-time leader in games played, surpassing Robert Parish, who had appeared in 1,611 games.

Despite his early highlights on Saturday, James had a relatively quiet scoring night. He finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves carried the offensive load with 33 and 26 points, respectively. The Lakers started strong, leading by seven at the end of the first quarter.
Their momentum slowed in the second, and they trailed by 3 at halftime. The second half turned into a close contest, and if James provided the highlight to start the game, it was Lakers sharpshooter Luke Kennard who delivered the decisive moment to end it.
Kennard hit a near buzzer-beating 3-pointer off a set play in the final seconds to secure the Lakers’ ninth straight win.

The Lakers overcame a balanced scoring effort from the Magic, who had seven players reach double figures, including Paolo Banchero with 16 points on 4-of-14 shooting. Orlando missed the defensive switch that allowed Kennard to connect on the game-winning shot.
Even in his current reduced role, James continues to demonstrate why he remains one of the league’s most impactful players, and Saturday night provided another example.
Just a few days ago, Lakers head coach JJ Redick made a notable comment about James. He said, “The best thing for our team is being the third-highest-used player,” pointing out how James has now slipped behind Dončić and Reaves in usage.
The Lakers will now shift their focus to their next matchup against the Detroit Pistons on March 23, as they continue their push forward in the season.
