LeBron James’ Agent Rich Paul Delivers Massive Update on Lakers Star’s Future Amid Retirement Rumors

Rich Paul discusses the trade rumors surrounding LeBron James in the debut episode of his podcast with Max Kellerman.

LeBron James is at the tail end of his illustrious career, but he still isn’t safe from trade talks. Rumors have persisted that the soon-to-be 41-year-old could be traded this season. His own agent has finally spoken up to address these rumors.

Rich Paul Sheds Light on LeBron James’ Immediate Future

There were two major questions regarding James’ career coming into the 2025-26 campaign. First was whether he would remain with the Lakers for the entire season, and second was whether this would be his final year.

While the latter remains uncertain, the first has now been addressed. The definitive answer came from Rich Paul, James’ agent

Paul discussed the matter on “Game Over,” his new podcast with Max Kellerman. During the episode, Kellerman asked whether James might be playing for another team before the season concludes.

Paul’s reply was a firm “no.” When pressed on whether James would remain in a Lakers uniform, Paul responded, “Yeah, where’s he going to go?” Kellerman then suggested the New York Knicks as a potential destination. “That’s wishful thinking,” Paul replied.

Paul also explained the primary reason a trade involving James would be complicated: “He has a no‑trade clause, so he would have to agree to it.”

At this stage in his career, trading for James might not be in the best interest of most teams. He is in the final year of his contract, which is worth over $52 million. Afterward, there’s no telling if he’ll finally hang up his sneakers.

Aside from that, it looks like Father Time has finally caught up to him. He has missed more games than he has played due to injuries. When he does play, it’s not consistently at the level fans have grown accustomed to seeing.

He did drop 25 points against the LA Clippers on Nov. 25 and then 29 against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday. However, he has also had other games where he shot at a low percentage.

In fact, he failed to hit double-digit scoring in one of them, as he went 4-for-17 for eight points against the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 4, ending his lengthy streak of games with at least 10 points. Before that, he scored just 10 points on a 3-for-10 clip.
