LeBron James Gives a Glimpse of His Recovery Routine, Offseason Work Amid Lakers Trade Request Rumors

LeBron James opts into his $52.6M Lakers contract and shares his recovery routine as he prepares for his 23rd NBA season.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James recently exercised his $52.6 million player option for the upcoming 2025-26 season, sending ripples through the NBA. The decision comes amid widespread speculation about whether the 40-year-old superstar will finish his career in Los Angeles or seek a new destination.

As rumors continue to swirl about James’ future, the four-time NBA champion has been focusing on his recovery routine during the offseason. The Lakers icon is preparing to enter what many consider the final stage of his storied career.

LeBron James Shows Recovery Process Following Injury-Plagued Season

In a recent post on his Instagram story, James revealed his intense recovery routine following offseason training. The post shows him preparing to hit the ground running next season, whether for the Lakers or another team.

The Instagram story reveals James soaking in hot water at his home gym following an intense training session. NBA fans can see his ankle submerged in the water as he works to recover from injuries sustained last season.

James has dealt with multiple ankle injuries throughout recent seasons. During the 2021 season, he suffered a high ankle sprain in his right ankle after colliding with Solomon Hill during a game against the Atlanta Hawks. This injury continued to affect him in subsequent seasons, including the 2024 campaign.

At the start of the 2024 season, James missed multiple games due to ankle soreness, including contests against the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers. However, these absences were reportedly due to his left ankle, not the one he injured in 2021.

The left ankle injury occurred during the Lakers’ 116-108 loss to New Orleans. James hurt his ankle by landing on the foot of Pelicans forward Jaxson Hayes, hitting the floor and bending his ankle at a 90-degree angle.

Future Remains Uncertain Despite Contract Extension

While James continues to rehab injuries from recent seasons, he has become the most discussed topic in the NBA. Fans and experts speculate whether he will finish his career in Los Angeles or leave during the 2025 free agency period.

The speculation intensified after James exercised his player option, which many viewed as a strategic move rather than a long-term commitment. His agent, Rich Paul, has left the door open for future possibilities while emphasizing that James wants to compete at the highest level.

“From what I gather, LeBron James understands where the Lakers are. I don’t think he’s asking them to change direction or make him the face of the franchise again. He wants to finish his career playing at the highest level,” NBA insider Shams Charania revealed recently.

Teams interested in acquiring James will likely factor his fitness into their decision-making process. After missing multiple games last season due to various injuries, his health remains a key consideration.

The number of teams that can satisfy both James’ championship aspirations and the Lakers’ trade demands continues to shrink as the offseason progresses.

James averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game during the 2024-25 season while appearing in 70 games. His performance remained elite despite the injury concerns, proving he can still compete at the highest level entering his 23rd NBA season.
