‘That Was Uncalled For, It Made No Sense’ — LeBron James Blasts Refs for ‘Ridiculous’ Ejection in Lakers-Rockets Game 4

LeBron James blasts the referees over a ridiculous Adou Thiero ejection as the Los Angeles Lakers suffer a Game 4 blowout.

The Los Angeles Lakers lost their chance at a first-round sweep on Sunday night. In a disastrous 115-96 blowout defeat to a Houston Rockets squad missing Kevin Durant, the Lakers were outplayed and visibly exhausted.

While the focus was mostly on the disappointing performance, Los Angeles also found itself at odds with the officiating crew.

After watching two of his teammates get tossed from the floor during the Game 4 defeat, LeBron James did not hold back his frustrations with the officiating.

LeBron James Gets Brutally Honest About Officiating in Game 4 Loss

Tensions were high at the Toyota Center on Sunday. With the Rockets fighting to keep their season alive in the absence of Durant, who was nursing his left ankle sprain, the physicality was dialed all the way up from the opening tip.

As Houston built a double-digit lead, it did not take long for the Lakers’ frustration to boil over.

The first domino fell in the third quarter when starting center Deandre Ayton was hit with an automatic ejection after a Flagrant 2 elbow to the face of Alperen Şengün.

Until then, Ayton had been putting together an impressive performance with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds on an efficient 9-of-12 shooting.

However, it was a separate ejection late in the game that ultimately set James off.

Just minutes after checking into the contest, Adou Thiero had to head right back down the tunnel. After a scuffle with Aaron Holiday late in the fourth quarter, officials quickly ejected the two.

“I’m more pissed off about them kicking Adou out. That was uncalled for, and it made no sense. Think that’s his first time he’s ever been thrown out of a game in his life. I don’t think that was warranted. Give him two technicals, the kid just got in the game, that was ridiculous,” James said.

The rest of the Los Angeles roster offered virtually no support.

With the backcourt duo of Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves sidelined by injuries, a 41-year-old James looked completely exhausted. He finished with a postseason-worst 10 points on 2-of-9 shooting while giving up 8 turnovers.

The Rockets took full advantage of the Lakers’ poor showing. Securing a 19-point victory without an injured Durant gives Houston serious momentum.

Still holding a 3-1 lead heading back to Crypto.com Arena for Game 5, Los Angeles must close out this matchup because Houston has made it clear it will not go down quietly.
