‘The King and the Heir,’ ‘Wild to Witness’ — NBA World Reacts As LeBron James, Bronny James Share Floor in Lakers’ Game 1

LeBron James and Bronny James shared the floor in Game 1 between the Lakers and Rockets, sparking reactions from the NBA community.

The Los Angeles Lakers tipped off their anticipated first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night, and it didn’t take long for history to take center stage.

While the stakes of the Game 1 clash were already huge for a shorthanded Los Angeles squad, the NBA world was captivated with LeBron James and his son, Bronny, sharing the floor under the bright lights.

Entering the opener at Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers faced a daunting challenge. With Luka Dončić (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (oblique) sidelined, Los Angeles entered the matchup missing nearly 57 points per game of regular-season production.

The offensive burden fell squarely on 41-year-old James’ shoulders against a physical Rockets team that was without Kevin Durant (right knee injury) for the game. The Lakers adopted a gritty approach to control the tempo and neutralize Houston’s athleticism.

While Lakers fans have been treated to James and his son, Bronny, taking the court together often during the regular season, seeing the father-son duo in iconic purple and gold jerseys during a playoff game was too surreal to ignore.

Fans and analysts flooded timelines to react to this impressive moment, as SportsCenter posted, “Father and son in the PLAYOFFS 👑This is really wild to witness 🔥”

“The King and the Heir 👑,” ESPN captioned.

“Dope sh*t!! 💪🏿,” Dallas Cowboys legend Dez Bryant remarked, reacting to the father-son duo taking charge for the Lakers.

“Historic,” media personality Madelyn Burke wrote.

“LeBron and Bronny James are the first father-son duo to play together in an NBA playoff game 👏,” The Athletic highlighted.

“LeBron and Bronny going on a playoff run together should end the goat debate because all Jordan and his sons did together was open a sneaker shop,” one influencer boldly declared.

“It’s pretty damn amazing to: a) be great enough to be old enough to play in an NBA playoff game and have a son old enough to also play. b) be good enough (LeBron) to still be playing in the playoffs. c) be good enough (Bronny) to be playing in the playoffs,” Will Haskett noted.

Having to shift his role dramatically after injuries to Dončić and Reaves, the 41-year-old James revealed the difference it made in having the duo on the court.

“This current iteration of the group is all we have right now,” James said. “So, we have to play and make the most of it. But, at the end of the day, in the back of our minds, front of our minds, and side, we’re still thinking about Luka and AR. I mean, that’s just human nature… Our chemistry was such at a high, so it’s not like you just forget about those guys.”

Los Angeles managed to cling to its lead and pull off a 107-98 Game 1 upset against the Rockets. Luke Kennard was the Lakers’ hero for the night, posting 27 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds, going 9-of-13 from the floor.
