Lakers’ Luke Kennard Details Who Would Win a 3-Point Contest Between Him and Prime JJ Redick

Luke Kennard breaks down in detail who would win in a 3-point shooting contest between him and Lakers head coach JJ Redick.

Luke Kennard is proving to be an important asset for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. Before the day of the trade deadline, the Lakers made a last-minute transaction with the Atlanta Hawks, trading Gabe Vincent for Kennard.

It was arguably a great trade for the Lakers, considering that they’ve long been looking for a consistent shooter who can easily knock down open shots for them. What better way to get a shooter for the team than to secure the best shooter in the league today?

Luke Kennard Confidently Believes He Can Beat Prime JJ Redick

Kennard leads the league in 3-point shooting percentage this season, which now makes the Lakers more threatening on offense. However, it appears that Lakers head coach JJ Redick feels he could take on Kennard in a 3-point shooting contest in his prime.

In a recent post-workout interview with Kennard, reporters had the opportunity to pick the brain of the sharpshooter. The media asked how many shots Kennard could make out of 100 attempts.

Reporters then told Kennard that Redick could easily knock down more than 80 shots from beyond the arc. The Lakers’ sharpshooter couldn’t help but play along with the friendly banter and declared he could easily outclass Redick in shooting.

“90,” Kennard said about how many shots he can knock down out of 100. “I’d probably be just right above (JJ Redick). I remember playing against him. He was very good at his footwork, coming off screens, and shooting. He was very good at that.”

Looking back at the time Kennard and Redick faced off in the NBA, the Lakers’ head coach has a better record against the sharpshooter. Out of the nine games they played against each other, Redick has won six of them.

However, that doesn’t mean Kennard isn’t a remarkable player. Since arriving in LA, Kennard has played impactful minutes, averaging 10.4 points while shooting 51.1% from beyond the arc in 14 games as a Laker.

As of this writing, Kennard remains the league’s leader in 3-point shooting percentage, averaging 50.0% accuracy per game. For as long as the sharpshooter can remain consistent in assisting on the offensive end of the court, the Lakers might have a shot at climbing further in the Western Conference’s standings.

The Lakers are currently sitting in fifth place with a 39-25 record. They are only one game behind the third-placed Minnesota Timberwolves (40-24), meaning they have more than enough opportunities to potentially overtake them and secure the third seed in the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
