LeBron James found himself in an awkward position when asked to share his stance on the recent decision by the Los Angeles Clippers to part ways with Chris Paul. Reports had indicated that Paul was frequently butting heads with Clippers head coach Tyron Lue, members of the front office, and even teammates.
All of this led to the Clippers parting ways with Paul in an unceremonious manner early in the season. With the NBA trade deadline still several weeks away, James was asked to share his thoughts and, if possible, choose a side.
LeBron James Is Unable To Choose Between His Former Coach and a Respected Peer
As the Clippers struggled, blowing large leads and losing winnable games, Lue’s coaching approach drew its share of criticism. At the same time, Paul joined the Clippers knowing he would have limited influence over how the team operated. As losses piled up, his frustrations appeared to surface publicly.
Those who have followed James throughout his career know he maintains both professional and personal relationships with Paul and Lue. James won what many consider his most impressive NBA title with Lue coaching the Cleveland Cavaliers.
At the same time, the four-time NBA champion has long expressed respect and admiration for Paul. The two faced each other numerous times over the years and knew one another even before entering the NBA.
Although James is close friends with Paul, he said he had not yet spoken to him about his departure from the Clippers. Given his ties to both Paul and Lue, James made it clear he was unwilling to comment on the situation within the Clippers organization: “It’s not for me to comment on. It’s not — none of my business.”
Asked LeBron James if he had a chance to talk to Chris Paul since the Clippers sent him home.
“No I haven’t.”
Me: “Were you surprised at all at how things played out.”

The Lakers star also revealed he has not spoken with Paul since his exit from the Clippers. Given James’ longstanding relationship with Paul and his historic success alongside Lue, his reluctance to weigh in is understandable.
Despite the NBA’s all-time leading scorer steering clear of the situation, speculation will continue over whether James’ relationship with Paul could eventually lead the Lakers to consider offering him a deal.
