Lakers Announce Major Bronny James News

The Los Angeles Lakers make a major Bronny James announcement after the sophomore played 10 games with the team.

Bronny James is now a sophomore in the NBA. While his rookie season wasn’t what everyone hoped for, there are some expectations for him this year. Many believe the young James has put in the work over the summer and could potentially become a better role player this season.

After playing 10 games with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team has made a major announcement regarding him.

Bronny James and LeBron James Swap Roles

Since the beginning of the 2025-26 season, Bronny has found himself playing for the main Lakers roster, a development prompted by the temporary absence of his father. During the offseason, LeBron was diagnosed with sciatica, which sidelined him for both the preseason and several early regular-season contests. His unavailability created an opportunity for Bronny to step into a role on the main squad.

Upon receiving medical clearance to resume basketball activities, LeBron was assigned to the Lakers’ G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. This strategic decision allowed the veteran forward to gradually reacclimate to competitive play and regain optimal conditioning ahead of his return to NBA action.

On Tuesday, LeBron made his highly anticipated season debut against the Utah Jazz. In his return, the four-time MVP led the Lakers to a 140–126 victory, recording a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists.

Bronny also saw playing time in the matchup, contributing three points and two assists. While the occasion marked a meaningful moment for the younger James — sharing the court during his father’s comeback — the organization has opted to reassign Bronny to the G League.

“The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned guard Bronny James Jr. and forward Adou Thiero to South Bay,” NBA reporter Dave McMenamin reported on X.

Assignment to South Bay should not be viewed negatively, as the G League serves as a valuable platform for player development. That said, it is evident that Bronny still has considerable room for growth in his game. Over the course of 10 appearances with the Lakers’ main roster, he averaged 2.1 points and 1.8 assists per game, while shooting just 29.6% from the field

In contrast, Bronny delivered a promising campaign with South Bay last season, posting averages of 18.6 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.5 rebounds. His performance demonstrated the potential to compete at a professional level. However, based on his current output with the Lakers’ primary squad, it is apparent that he must continue to build confidence and refine his skill set before consistently contributing at the NBA level.

Why r the Lakers wasting their time with this kid? I blame Lebum, not him. U can’t trade him, nobody wants him. So cut him and get someone who truly deserves that spot on the roster.
