Kyrie Irving won’t be available for potentially half the regular season as he recovers from ACL surgery. Still, the Dallas Mavericks were not hesitant to offer the point guard another massive deal.
The nine-time NBA All-Star is likely to take a bigger role in the franchise upon his return as the Mavericks begin their title charge with rookie Cooper Flagg and superstar Anthony Davis.
Breaking Down Kyrie Irving’s Contract With the Mavericks
As reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania on X, Irving declined his $43 million player option and instead plans to sign a three-year, $119 million contract with the Mavericks. The deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 season.

The contract structure proves particularly beneficial for Dallas, as Irving’s deal averages roughly $40 million annually, $3 million less per year than his declined option. This modest reduction provides the Mavericks with access to the valuable $5.7 million taxpayer mid-level exception, a crucial tool for roster construction.
Irving, who averaged 24.7 points per game before going down with a torn left ACL in March, isn’t expected back on the court until early 2026. He was injured during a game against the Sacramento Kings and will likely miss the first few months of the upcoming season. Still, Dallas is betting on his return to form.
The 2016 NBA champion aims to build a legacy with the Mavericks, and the deal shows commitment from both the player and the franchise. Charania reported that Irving appreciates the franchise’s belief in him despite his injury setback.
“I spoke to Kyrie Irving just a few moments ago, and he told me his decision to return and stay in Dallas was largely based on commitment, not only from him, but the Mavericks as well, and wanting to build a real legacy in Dallas,” Charania said.
Kyrie Irving’s Net Worth
Between his NBA salaries, endorsements, and investments, Irving’s net worth is estimated to be around $90 million. His career earnings from NBA contracts alone exceed $310 million, and that number will only continue to grow as he finishes out his Mavericks deal.
Irving’s earnings don’t just come from his NBA salary. Before parting ways with Nike in 2022, his signature sneaker line was one of the company’s top sellers. Since then, he has signed a new shoe deal with the Chinese brand ANTA, which will provide him with both endorsement money and a role as their Chief Creative Officer.
He has previously worked with brands like Pepsi (famously playing the role of “Uncle Drew” in commercials and a feature film), 2K Sports, and General Mills.
With the right veteran addition and Cooper Flagg’s expected impact, the Mavericks are built to withstand Irving’s absence while giving their $119 million investment the runway it needs to deliver when it matters most.
