After a strong run to the 2024 NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks swung for the fences in the offseason, signing veteran swingman Klay Thompson.
Thompson, who spent the better part of his career with the Golden State Warriors helping them win four championships, joined the Mavericks in hopes of helping the team get over the hump.
However, things have changed drastically in Dallas after the trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Lakers for Anthony Davis. Despite these shifts, one thing is sure: Thompson is among the team’s highest-paid players. Here is a breakdown of how much Thompson has made throughout his career.
How Much Money Is Klay Thompson Making?
Thompson was taken with the No. 11 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He, alongside Stephen Curry, formed one of the greatest backcourts in the history of the NBA, known as the Splash Bros.
He signed a four-year, $9.74 million contract with the Warriors during his rookie season, and his play quickly rewarded him with a new deal.
In October 2014, the Warriors signed him to a four-year contract extension of $68.98 million. During his second contract, he emerged as one of the premiere shooting guards, including a breakout season in 2014-15, averaging 21.7 points on 46.3% shooting from the field and 43.9% from behind the arc.
The Warriors further showed their commitment and gratitude toward Thompson by rewarding him with another contract in July 2019, signing him to a five-year, $189.9 million contract.
Despite the massive payday, Thompson spent much of his time battling a torn ACL injury he suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals.
The injury kept him sidelined for two full seasons. However, he returned in the 2021-22 season, and the Warriors won their fourth championship in the Splash Bros era.
Thompson fulfilled the remainder of that contract in Golden State before signing with the Mavericks in the 2024 offseason. Thompson is currently playing under a three-year contract for $50 million.
This season, he has made $15,873,016, and is expected to play in Dallas through his contract.
