Klay Thompson Makes Feelings Clear on His Role With Mavericks Amid Dallas’ Turbulent Season

Amid Dallas's turbulent season, NBA legend Klay Thompson has shared his feelings about the franchise after their victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

The Dallas Mavericks may be having a turbulent season in the West, but Klay Thompson, one of the greatest shooters in NBA history, seems numb to all of that. Following Dallas’ 113-105 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, Thompson spoke candidly about his time in Texas, making his feelings about his time with the franchise clear.

Klay Thompson Shares Wholesome Perspective

Thompson said, “It’s been great, honestly. Year 15. Playing great minutes in the NBA, in a great city, and I’ve been enjoying every second. I love the game, and I love being healthy enough to be out there so much. It’s a true blessing, and I’ll never take for granted those years I’ve missed because it gave me great perspective.”

Before his move to Dallas in July 2024, Thompson established himself as one of the most incredible shooting guards in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors.

The trio of Thompson, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green won a total of 518 games in the regular season and playoffs, sixth most by a trio all-time. Their 98 playoff wins rank third as a trio in NBA history, and their four NBA titles are tied with Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker for the most by an All-NBA trio.

It’s not all been sunshine and rainbows for the five-time All-Star, who’s faced a torrid time with injuries in the latter part of his career on the West Coast.

Thompson’s ‘great perspective’ came from two devastating injuries, which sidelined him for over 900 days and meant he missed over two and a half seasons of action. In game six of the 2019 NBA Finals, Thompson suffered a left knee ACL Tear while landing awkwardly off a jump shot.

In November 2020, during a workout session while rehabbing his ACL, Thompson suffered a right Achilles tendon tear. He came back in 2022 to help the Warriors win their fourth title in seven years.

The Warriors legend joined Dallas at their peak, having made his move just a month after they reached the 2024 NBA Finals, led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025, and the Mavericks’ performances have only worsened, as they sit 12th in the Western Conference with 15 wins.

The Dallas organization resembles a circus, with Anthony Davis rumored to be on the trade block and no clear plan for how the franchise wants to move forward.

From Thompson’s perspective, he’s already won it all, and with his recent injury trouble, averaging a solid 22.2 minutes per game, and playing regularly is all that matters.
